Re: Good vs. Bad of ING Direct

we have 3 accounts with ING... its just easy. interest rates are pretty good... they do have free ATMs all over the place...

the only PITA is making a transfer to a local bank. it can take 2-5 days... but that will happen anytime you make transfers between banks.

oh.. and they gave me $25 for opening my account! :)

Re: Good vs. Bad of ING Direct

When I originally set up my ING account, the interest rate was at about 5% and that was obviously years ago.

So that was a love for me.

The good thing is that I automatically deposit money every paycheck from there and tend to "forget about it" which helps save money. Which is a good thing.

The only bad for me is that if you need money ASAP, you have to transfer it and wait for it versus a savings account at your local bank that you can go move the money and have it the same day.

In addition to what others said, I like that I can make "subaccounts" so the money is all in one account but when I view it the money is seperated into things I am saving for, like vacation fund, home repairs, car fund, etc.

Re: Good vs. Bad of ING Direct

As a teacher, I love it b/c I deduct a certain amount from each paycheck all year long - it goes automatically into ING. Then over the summer, I schedule deposits into my checking as if I'm receiving a paycheck! It's awesome! It also has the highest interest rate around! You just can't depend on it for quick access if you need it. With a weekend and/or holiday, it could take almost a week to transfer money.

Re: Good vs. Bad of ING Direct

I have one... love it because of the interest. And I consider that money on lock down.

What's bothering me lately is that Capital One Bank (whom I used to work for) just bought ING Direct.

We have accounts there. The only thing I like is having limited access. The interest rate and cd rates aren't that great anymore.

Island Federal CU has some decent CD rates. I think I'm going to move some money over there.

wow, that's very smart!

good - I like it because it's untouched money. A forced savings. It goes in automatically and builds up.

bad - I believe that you have keep all your account passwords, they cant help you get to your $/ passwords. I *believe* that is what it said when I started one.
That scares me a little.
