bring a book baby shower W/ new question
I found the cutest invites for my sisters shower. At the tope it reads "Bring a book baby shower to honor X"
After that it makes no mention of the book again. Do I make up little cards explaining the whole bring a book idea, or do you think people will get it?
ETA: At the shower what did you do with all the books? Did you display them on a table or bookshelf?

Re: bring a book baby shower
you could add a note that instead of a traditional wishing well you will do a "book wishing well" or something like that.

Re: bring a book baby shower
You can Google it and find a poem that you can insert into the invite. My mom did that for my shower and I got such great books! I registered at BBB for the books everyone likes to buy so that I didn't get too many doubles and I think it worked! GL!

Re: bring a book baby shower
My sister found a poem she inserted inside the invitations that asked for people to sign the book instead of a card. DD got so many great books and everytime I read one I look at who it is from and the message they wrote to her

Re: bring a book baby shower
My brother made AWESOME labels that were included in the invitations that said "For Baby (Our Last Name)".
It matched cardstock that was glued to the back of the label that had the poem of what to do with the labels on the back. He did such a great job, and now all the books we received (and it was a TON of books!) has the same adorable label on them!
Both designs were the same footprint design with the border that he somehow got to match our invitations perfectly! Image Attachment(s):

Re: bring a book baby shower
For those of you planning to do this, are you putting books on your registry or just leaving it up to your guests?

Same here and we have a TOOOOON of books! I love them all, but Emmy's favs are the Kohl's Cares for Kids book and matching stuffed animal collection. My aunt buys her them everytime she sees a new one and right now "Mama" Llama is a favorite of hers

This is adorable! I am not registering for Books. Just letting the guests bring their own pics. Thought it would be interesting to see what their favorites are.

Re: bring a book baby shower
My invite asked guests to bring a book and write a note in it instead of a card. We have a whole library of books for our kids with messages from family.

I put books on the registry in an effort to avoid duplicates as much as possible. Most of them were on the Amazon registry, but no one really bought off of that. Some people bought the books on our BBB and BRU registries, but most people bought their own books that were favorites of theirs, and that was so meaningful for us! We didn't end up getting TOO many doubles.
We did get three copies of "I Love You Through and Through"... figured I could keep one in his room, in the car and at Grandma's so it's all good.
The feedback was that most guests LOVED the idea and most guests took the time to write really sweet messages in the book for baby. (BTW... some people bought cards with or instead of the books anyway. Overall, though, it was a success and our baby has enough to read to get him to college! lol)

Re: bring a book baby shower
My mom and sister printed a poem about a book wishing well on blank business cards and inserted them with the invite.
I added books to the registry, but also received lots of great books that were not on it.

Re: bring a book baby shower W/ new question
Just wanted to give you another saying idea. My girlfriend had told me that she went to a shower where everyone brought the book instead of a card and she ended up having tons of duplicates that she couldn't return because they were all signed in. So I looked for a poem that didn't say anything about it being a replacement of a card.
As Claudette's due date is coming near, We're inviting friends & family dear, To choose a favorite story or fairy tale, That you would like Baby Connor to hear. So please let Claudette & Cory look, At your special choice of a book, And then to Baby Connor they will read, With all the love a newborn will need.
I'm curious about diplay as well!

Re: bring a book baby shower W/ new question
I have a friend who went to a baby shower and they asked her to bring a book that started with a specific letter. She got the letter W. It was a cute idea.

I did not register for any books and I received well over 100 books and not a single duplicate. Don't ask me how that happened but it's a true story. I got mostly really, really nice books too.
To the OP, my mother bought a book case that matches the nursery furniture and she had guests put them in there. It's great because now I have a place to put them all.

Re: bring a book baby shower W/ new question
My Mom and BF did a bookcase as a gift at the baby shower and asked the guests to bring books to start DS's library... It was awesome. He got over 30 books at the shower.. The book case was displayed at the shower and almost everybody wrote a nice little note in the book for him..

Re: bring a book baby shower W/ new question
I had a regular shower invitation and my mother put on the directions card "Please bring a children's book for the wishing well." I am using the family bassinet and my mother bought a beautiful skirt set for it - all the books were displayed in there. I didn't register for any books, but I managed to get no doubles!

Same for us. We did receive some doubles and even triples, but we then shared them with my parents, ILs.
