Talent Show song banned

A student wanted to sing a religious song in a school's talent show and they told her NO...

Do you agree with this decision?

no I do not agree with this. We have freedom OF religion in this country- not freedom FROM religion. Forbidding her to do this also violates her right to free speach.

I believe in seperation of church and state, but that is a little ridiculous.

I disagree with the decision. With all of the offensive music kids listen to, they should be glad that she wanted to sing something religious.

Re: Talent Show song banned

It depends on the song, but overall I would have to say yes I agree with it....only because religion is a hard thing for children to absorb and if it was for example a Christian song, I think the song itself does not represnt 100% of the students and therefore maybe not appropriate.

It would NEVER bother me....but I can see some uptight parents/people trying to bring drama to it, and therefore, just to save the aggravation make it a song appealing to all...

If a child or their parents are very into spreading their relgion through song etc,,,then theres Catholic school or other relgious schools.

I have to say I agree only because I believe in seperation of church and state.

Although in a perfect world I would much rather people be able to do and say whatever they please with respect and within reason and not have anyone bothered about it. Thats what the world IMO SHOULD be and then this should or would not be a problem and they could sing whatever they wanted..

Hope that made some sense...LOL

This is a public school. She wan't forcing people to learn or believe in her song...It was a talent show. A talent show that anyone should be able to sing a song that they want. I believe separation of church and state but that has nothing to do with singing a talent show song. Lots of popular songs have messages...that doesn't mean it shouldn't be played.
I wonder if the school would have banned it if she sang back that azz up? Or how about the new Yin Yang song...

which religious song? was it a modern song or a traditional one. I don't think that was right, she should be allowed to sing it

Re: Talent Show song banned

It's a talent show and a song. Their are so many offensive songs out there and are a lot more offensive then a religious song.

I wouldn't have been offended by it at all and would think a change like that is daring and good for her for wanting to be different.

If she was singing "Ave Maria" and she had a fabulous voice for it, she'd probably have the entire audience in tears.

Re: Talent Show song banned

I definately don't agree with this decision. Public schools should focus on banning things of more importance.
