Just joined the gym!
My 31st birthday was Monday and between getting older, my divorce, selling my house, working a full time job and a private practice and being a single mom I don't get much time for myself. Not to mention that I feel like garbage! So, I took advantage of the Planet Fitness $10 per month membership. I was never one to like the gym. I was a competitive swimmer so I'd much rather be in a pool than on treadmill. But, the gym is what I can afford for right now. This morning was my first workout. But, I found that I have no clue what I'm doing, aside from cardio. I don't want to walk around and look like a fool. So, can you girls lead me in the right direction? Where can I start?

Re: Just joined the gym!
I haven't been a member of a gym in ages, but when I first joined one back in the day, I went around a few times with a trainer so I could learn the machines and a routine. I can't remember if it cost extra, it was so long ago.
If you know anyone who knows machines, maybe you get them to go with you on a free pass or something to show you the ropes.

Well, I know the machines. I just don't know how/when to do them. Like do I do all arms? Then back? Then chest? All in separate days? Is it okay to do cardio every time?

Planet fitness offers free group sessions to members to help them learn how to use the machines and set up a work out program. Ask at the front desk. The location I go to has them several times a week.

Re: Just joined the gym!
You can split up your weight training.
You can do upper body one day, lower body the next - aim for 2 or 3 times per week.
You can break it up into major muscle groups so day one of weight training can be your biceps, triceps, deltoids (shoulders) and lats.
Lower body days are your glutes, hamstrings, inner and outer thigh muscles (adductors and abductors), quads and calves.
You can do cardio on weight days but remember to give yourself rest - don't work the same muscle groups two day in a row.
If you have questions, the staff will be able to guide you.
Have fun!
