The Source Mall is so depressing!
I went there for a couple of hours this am just to walk around and take DD on the carousel etc. But it is sooo sad to walk thru that mall now, so many stores are CLOSED! I was there mid June and I thought there was a lot closed but now it 10x worse!
I can't imagine that mall staying open much longer! Once Fortunoffs closed that was it!
Even the food court, there is nothing there anymore!
Cant even get coffee at least at Starbucks anymore!

I know. It's bad. There are more closed stores than open. But, I heard two big anchor stores are going in. I just think it might be too late.

It makes me so sad! Even McDonalds left the food court!
What makes me nuts is they tore down a huge office building next door, it was Hertz or Avis or one of those companies, to build another shopping center!?!?
I don't get that- use the mostly vacant one next door
I used to go to that mall all of the time, now it's a ghost town

Honestly, it's just an example of what's pretty standard in many parts of the country.
As much as the recession has hit here, the impact has been nothing compare to several other American cities.
My BIL recently was on business in Detriot. He was following the directions on the GPS to get to a law office and was convinced he was completely lost... the streets were deserted... every store for blocks and blocks bordered up and this was not considered a "seedy section" of town... imagine all businesses on Jericho Turnpike or Sunrise highway shut down for miles

Its strange because everytime I go, I still can't find a freakin parking spot! I'm convinced Dave and Busters is the only reason that place still exists.
I do love me some Nordstrom Rack!

Do you know what stores they are? That might help it! It is soooo vacant now. Def more stores closed than open.
Even after Fortunoff's closed I would at least still go for NY and Co, the maternity store when I was pregnant, Maximus once ina while etc but now theres NOTHING really left.
So sad!
Is Cheesecake Factory still as busy as it used to be? I only go there on occasion for lunch, never at night anymore.

Yeah it was almost eerie being there this morning. I didnt want to really"walk" it bc it seemed so quiet and vacant.
The carousel was pretty busy though
I saw those stores being built on Old country road....now that is just DUMB!

I cannot believe they did this... To add more stores when stores in the source are empty and stores in the strip malls up and down that strip on Old Country road are all empty! I just don't understand, I just don't get it!!! Yes it will create jobs to build this complex, but whats the point if its empty!!!

We were there today and were saying the same thing. It's empty. Now I go for the baby, but there aren't many stores to shop in for myself.

It's funny you posted this - I was there yesterday and couldn't believe it. A bunch of people were also commenting about it and someone said Cheesecake Factory is going to move nextdoor to where Borders was.
I don't understand why "they" keep building all of these new shopping centers when there's nothing to go into it.

Me too, I usually used to go for Carters and the few other stores that were there but now it seems like just carters maybe Old Navy and the carousel for DD. So sad. And I remember the days that mall was PACKED! We used to make a day out of going there.

Exactly its been a depressing place now its WORSE if you could imagine. I would say over 50% closed maybe even more.

Thats what I was going to say. Maximus was a fixture there for SO many years and they had a huge space. Simon hit them with a significant increase, so they left. I don't understand...don't they lose more money having EMPTY stores than keeping the rent the same? And this was when the mall was already half empty.
What is this open air mall people are referring to? That should be fun in December! hahah
And where will my beloved Bath and Body works and Yankee Candle be going?

I haven't been to the Source Mall in over a year. I have only been to Cheesecake Factory but I heard a lot of stores were closing. I loved going to H & M there because for some reason I think it's better than the one in Roosevelt Field.

Great I saw the signs for the new mall - just what we need MORE congestion in that area. I think a lot of the stores were leaving the source b.c they want too much for rent. I think with people cutting back, sometimes better deals online, and then raising rents too many things are closing and it is sad. Can't imagine why having a bunch of empty stores is better than many stores paying a bit less. Maybe they were hoping with the new mall that if the whole Nassau Col. deal goes through that it will bring a lot more business to the area. At least when the holidays came around the fact that the source was further up old country road broke up the traffic a bit. Just imagine what the area will be like once this new mall opens.

I just miss Fortunoff all together. I don't go to the Source Mall at all since it closed.
I can't find sheets and other bedding anywhere else like I did at Fortunoff.
