to be cut up, what do you send in? I don't think we subscribe to anything that would really be good for that so should I buy stuff like Women's Day? Do you think toy catalogs would be ok? We have paper subs to Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly, People, Vanity Fair, Baseball America and some computer mag for DH.

Send in whatever. The teachers will decide whats good and bad. Lots of times they just have to find something that starts with the letter of the day, a food or an animal or whatever. I remember doing it in school myself :)

I send in NY Magazine. But I have to look through it to make sure the photos are ok.
More than once I've caught my son sneaking NY Mag to school because they had a shot of someone's tush or boobs.
Maybe Time or Parenting?

Re: When you are asked to send in old magazines to school
yeah - I usually have a cooking mag or woman's day type mag laying around (my MIL passes along a bunch of those type mags to me) that I give them - otherwise - I'd feel weird giving them Cosmo! Also - I keep around some toy/lillian vernon type catalogs for cut out of mags hw.
I know one time my DS had to cut out circles from a mag. I gave him a womans mag and of course - he found a picture of birth control pills. Try convincing a very proud 3 yr old - let's find different circle picture to bring into school...I think he won that battle too.
