Will you buy your OB, Peri-Natologist and their staffs a gift after baby is born?
I ran into a couple who was buying a gift for their OB yesterday and never would have thought to do this.
Will you? If so, what?
I love both my doctors, so I am now planning on getting something for them. The question is... what?
Also, would you send something to the staff? Or cover both gifts in one? (Maybe an Edible Arrangements or something for the office?).

No. I'll just have DH pick something yummy up for the nurses the day I leave the maternity unit.

I agree. My friends DH brought Dunkin Donuts and they were all really happy. Although I love my OB I will not be giving a gift.

Re: Will you buy your OB, Peri-Natologist and their staffs a gift after baby is born?
No. Weird. I'll send my OB a birth announcement with a cute pic on it and a thank-you (assuming I'm happy with the job he does!), but that's it. I feel like it's weird to "tip" your doctor.
On the other hand, DH is a nurse and I know how much they appreciate getting tokens from patients - usually food. But I've heard that the postpartum nurses where I'll be delivering are pretty bad, unfortunately. Hey, maybe if we get them some bagels my first day there, they'll be nicer to me?

Re: Will you buy your OB, Peri-Natologist and their staffs a gift after baby is born?
I did get gifts for my RE and the staff at both offices I went to when doing IVF, so I may very well get something for my OB. There are three Drs in the group so I guess it depends on whether he does the delivery. My usual gift is a bottle of good Irish whiskey and I will get something like cookies for the nursing staff at the hospital.

Yeah I agree I think it is strange. Maybe if I was with an RE but not my regular OB.

Re: Will you buy your OB, Peri-Natologist and their staffs a gift after baby is born?
If you really loved the Dr's and their staff then I would definitely send a gift basket, maybe around the holidays So its not a wierd "thanks for delivering my baby" gift, instead its a "Merry Xmas" gift. I think that may be a lot more common.
On the other hand, I personally don't think its strange to send a gift to the office after the baby is born, but I wouldn't get the Dr an individual gift.
My primary care Dr and his staff are wonderful and helped me get through Lyme Disease. They took really good care of me. If I have the money, around the holidays I would love to call a local deli/pizza place in their area and order them lunch. (Well have them order and I will pay with my cc)

I'm hoping to get a picture of all 10 babies that my OBGYN has delivered and give it to him as a gift.

Re: Will you buy your OB, Peri-Natologist and their staffs a gift after baby is born?
Yes I did bc I loved him! I had a high risk Dr and he was really there for us during a lot complications during the pregnancy and during her birth. I didn't love my hospital so I didn't send a gift to the nurses. However I saw some ppl were sending editable arrangements to the nurses station. My dh did offer them pizza one night though , they declined.

Re: Will you buy your OB, Peri-Natologist and their staffs a gift after baby is born?
I plan on having DH bring food to the nurses on L&D and the maternity wing. Let's face it...they are the ones whose asses need to be kissed to get anything accomplished.
I haven't really thought about getting my OB or my high risk a gift but probably not. They are doing their job. And I have never once had a physician send me a gift after I have successfully gotten them discontinued from a lawsuit.

No...didn't buy them anything. The amount they are charging my insurance was gift enough.

Ob-- H e ll no!! Him and his staff can go stick it as far as I am concerned (esp after I caught them double billing my ins company!!).
RE-- Yes, we did once released
Hi-risk--Yes, loved her and her staff. Showed up with baby and goodies from her fave bakery and a thank you note.
