Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
I'm just curious if I'm going to look silly here.
We have been neighbors for a little over a year probably. I have never seen the wife more than maybe five times. I hardly see the husband and their child.
They just had another kid. DH and I said it would be nice to bring them a baby gift.
Are they going to think we are fools for doing this? I am waiting to walk over there to drop it off and I feel like such an idiot.
I don't even know their names to put them on the card

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
Yes in those cases I just bought an inexpensive outfit or two. It's a nice gesture.
We actually had neighbors (that we didn't know well) do that for us when our first DC was born.

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
No they are going to think you are the kindest most thoughtful neighbors EVER and they are lucky to live on your street I think that's lovely. When I received baby and birthday gifts for DS from neighbors/acquaintances that I don't know well I was ALWAYS was blown away by the thoughtfulness!!
If you know their last name you can always say Dear Jones Family on the card - maybe stalk the mailman one day to find out

I'm sure they think Mommy Dearest is living next to them since most days Jack is screaming "I'm not going into the house!" from our car
Don't know their last name either! Will stalk the mailman today! Great idea!

When I had my baby not one neighbor came to my house or even said a simple congrats. I think it would be very sweet of you to walk a gift over to them

I think it is a very nice gesture. I bought a neighbor something small from their registry when they got married and it was very much appreciated.

No, I wouldn't get them a gift. To be honest, it would never occur to me to buy gifts for people when I dont even know their names.

I think I know how you will get this name, and I think it's so wrong to get someone's name that you really have no business having. The neighbors are going to wonder how on earth you got their name if you've never had a conversation with them. As a neighbor, that would be really strange to me!
I think it's a nice gesture, but wouldn't do it to be honest

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
Yes! My next door neighbors moved in around the time we did and we NEVER saw them all winter long. But when I had Charlie they came over with a gift and introduced themselves and I was BEYOND touched!

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
Yes.
I know when I had my boys...I had gifts dropped off by all my neighbors, some I didnt even meet and it was so nice and really a nice gesture.
It opened up a way of stopping by and saying thanks and getting to know them.
I even had someone from AROUND the block that I briefly met drop something off.
SO nice!

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
I would, but instead of a baby item I'd get a gc to a local pizzeria so they can bring in dinner one night.

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
In that situation I wouldn't. I feel like it would just bring to light the fact that you don't know your neighbors very well and be awkward.

I actually found their name (through my business) but didn't include it on the card. I felt like an idiot being that they never told it to me.
ETA: I don't know why it would be so wrong to know my neighbors name

Stratus of course, and I still think it's wrong. That would be like a cop looking up a plate number just for the specific purpose of knowing the driver's name.
If you don't know your neighbor well enough to know their name, I would go try to make friends with them before buying them a gift and putting their name on it.
I just saw you won't be putting their name on it though, and that's a good idea.

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
I think it's a nice gesture. I'd use a gift bag & just not include a card or tag since you don't know their names.. when you see them in person, just express your congratulations verbally.
Although... with no card, now they won't be able to send you a TY note (if they wanted) if they don't know your name either

Our neighbor's did this for us when we had a baby...of course they had a baby a few months before and we didn't think to do this But then we gave them a gift for the holidays, including a toy for her
I think its a nice gesture

I would probably put something like "your friendly neighbor at 123 xyz lane" or something like that

Re: Would you buy your neighbor a baby gift?
How do you know they just had a baby? Is there a stork indicating that in front of the house? If so... You can address the card:
Dear baby _____
I think you are a wonderful person for doing this. Very very thoughtful.
If one of my neighbors did this, I would be extremely appreciative & suprised.
