I've been searching and I'm not sure where else to look!

DESPERATE for a new job.

On a daily basis I check the following sites:
CraigsList
CareerBuilder
Monster

I apply for jobs. I hear nothing, or the seldom "Sorry we picked someone else" email response.

Any suggestions? Am I limiting myself?

Generally speaking I will not apply/send resume if I do not meet the minimum qualifications.

I am TERRIBLE at selling myself, it's challenging for me to create a cover letter making me stand out.

And advise??

I would love to know too as this is what my dh and I look at for his job search.

Indeed.com

It's like a mega search. It searches Monster and Careerbuilder but a bunch of other sites as well.

also try SimplyHired.com and LinkedIn.com

These are all the right sites you're subscribing to. It's just that companies are overwhelmed with resumes.

The key is to ensure your resume uses some of the same key words as the job description. Often the recruiters use a software program to find the "best fits" based on key word matches. If there is no software they are attempting a quick scan to see what maps.

That said, LinkedIn offers job postings but is really valuable in helping you to discover who you know at a given company (aka, a network to tap into to have your resume considered) or with a couple of smart searches discover who the hiring manager or recruiter may be so you can reach out and make a connection to introduce yourself.

Hope this is helpful! Good luck!

I have no recommendations to be honest, except the cliche old networking advice, or bypassing the internet and going to places in person to apply.

I am not looking for a new job, but do send out resumes every so often for $hits and giggles often by MAIL (not email) and have experienced the same as you.

I work in social work which is one of those fields that is traditionally always known to be hiring, so to not hear ANYTHING is pretty scary to me.

I can't imagine what it is like for those who desperately need a job. Chat Icon Chat Icon

If anyone wants to send me their resume and cover letter I can look it over. I'm no expert but I seem to do very well in job interviews and getting calls. You can also look for jobs on LinkedIn

I agree with Indeed. I also use my alumni website. Do you have a connection like that, a college or something? I also had a career counselor at my law school re-write my cover letter and resume. I got a few more interviews because of it.

Good luck, I am in the same position and it is disheartening.
