Would you take food from your job that was meant for the needy?

Just wanted to see what everyone else feels about this.
I work at a not-for-profit agency where we have a food pantry and clothes closet for those in the community who are struggling. Today, we got a huge food delivery, and two of my co-workers helped themselves to bags of the food (My boss does this, too). We also get school supplies that we give to the families who ask for assistance - today I saw my boss' name on the list for her daughter. I'm not saying that my co-workers may not be having financial troubles of their own, but I look at it like (at least for the boss) you have a job, and earn a pay check each week...the people we're *supposed* to be giving these supplies and food to DON'T have jobs, are in danger of losing their homes, and are in all around bad situations.
So my question is - if you worked at a place that had food, clothing, and other supplies, would you help yourself before giving it out to others?

agreed, there are so many people unemployed and struggling right now, they could use it more than your co-workers trying to save a few dollars from jobs they work at.

I think that's flat out stealing. Those items were acquired in good faith to benefit the homeless & jobless and it's wrong to use them for any other purpose.

Wow that is really gross and trashy IMO
Disgusting and inexcusable.

And as for the arguement, well maybe the people who work there really need it and are having hard times- well then if they need it, they should go through the proper channels to get it -just like everyone else does.

Sorry but not only am I disgusted, I'd be reporting those people to the Executive Director or Board or whoever oversees them. I work for a not-for-profit as an administrator and wouldn't tolerate this type of abuse of the system for one minute!

This scheme was recently caught somewhere in Westchester County (videotaped) and those people were arrested for larceny.

No way!! Not under ANY circumstances., unless I was needy myself, it was approved, and I waited my turn just like everyone else participating.

Re: Would you take food from your job that was meant for the needy?

THis is blantantly WRONG and they should be held liable AND fired. WRONG. There was a news story on this on the news...catching pantry workers stealing BAGS of food. This makes me so angry!

My boss actually IS the executive director, which really makes me Chat Icon at the whole situation. So the only people I could really go to is the board of directors....IF that was something I chose to do.

Re: Would you take food from your job that was meant for the needy?

Wow this is absolutely disgusting.

I recently brought a client into the community from the nursing home, and he's had to use pantries over the past couple of weeks until his SSDI checks catch up to his new address.

Local food pantries have made it very difficult on his case manager to get him even basic items and he has complex needs in terms of diet.

If they are that in need, yes, they need to go through the proper channels to get what they need.

Honestly, I think you need to do what you need to do at this point to CYA because you could be blackballed in the field purely out of association, even if you've done nothing wrong. I've seen it happen.
