Not dilated at all?
I went for my first internal exam at 38w today (ouch!) and the OB said that I'm completely "closed and high." Is this unusual? He said that I could still go into labor any time - even tonight - but that it would be a looooooong labor if it happens soon. I'm just worried I'm going to go past 40w now. 
Has anyone else been completely "closed" so late in the game?

At my 38 week appt I was the same as you. I go for my 39th week appt tomorrow and am hoping for some advancing.

Crashing here but at my 38 week appointment I was completely closed and 2 days later my water broke so anything is possible.

I have my 38 week appointment tomorrow but I have been completely effaced and not dilated since last week, this baby isn't budging. Im praying my water breaks soon.

Do you think you labored for a lot longer than "usual," then? I asked my OB what would happen if I went into labor soon, and he said that it would take a good long time at home until I had to go to L&D.

I was told 2 weeks ago at week 37 that I was 2cm.
Last week, week 38, he said I was closed.  But I was 70% effaced. He said something like the outer cervix was 2cm, and inner was closed or something like that. I don't get it!
I thought I was on my way 2 weeks ago and now feel like I took a step back. I've had a couple of days of period cramps, so I hope at my appt tomorrow, I find out I'm dilating a bit... I REALLY want to go naturally - and they won't let me go past my due date, which is Aug 19th. We'll see what happens!

I was completely closed, no effacement, at my 40 week appt! I went naturally 3 days later.

I was also completely closed last week at 38 weeks! I'm hoping tomorrow at 39 weeks, there will be something going on! However, I think this little bugger is nice and cozy in there.

i was completely "closed and high" at 40w2d  which was why i had a section...
your doc is right, it can happen at the drop of a hat with no progress prior! try not to let it get to you, enjoy the last few weeks!!!

Ugh, I don't know if "enjoy" is the right word for how I'm feeling right now...
Thanks for all the responses, ladies! I was just worried that it was unusual to have no progress by now, and that we'd be talking induction or c-section next week. You've eased my mind!

I was barely a fingertip dilated at my first internal last time, and stayed that way for a couple of weeks. Had DD 5 days late after my water broke and STILL was barely dilated. Needed pitocin to move it along.

I labored for 22 hrs, 20 of those hours were intense contractions 2 mins apart and I never dilated passed 3 cm so I ended up having a csec. Hopefully you will have better luck than me.

Last week at 38 weeks, I was completely closed. I had a growth sonogram this week and everything looks good - baby is estimated at 7 lbs 10 oz. My due date is Monday and my next internal is Thursday. I will be 40 wks 3 days - kinda hoping I don't make it til then....

I was completely closed and high all the way up until my 41w appointment. My OB does not want his patients delivering passed 41w, so I had a scheduled c-section the next day.
