Oceanside
Hi all.
New to these boards - I am on LIW but FH & I are in the process of buying a home and are having so much trouble trying to nail down a location. We are both from SS Nassau County (Lynbrook & RVC) and would LOVE to live where we grew up but it is just sooo expensive to find anything that is about $400,000 that doesn't need major work! We have expanded our search to include Oceanside. I really don't know much about Oceanside and which areas are considered more diserable than others. We like what I think is referred to as the "Terrace" section - closer to South Nassau Hospital - but my question is that do you think that is a negative being so close? We like it because of the proximity to getting onto the parkway for our jobs instead of traveling 20 mins from the south of Oceanside. Any feedback is appreciated.
Also - corner house? Yay or Nay??

Re: Oceanside
We just moved to this area a couple of months ago. So far I really like it. It is pretty quiet (we live about 6 blocks east of South Nassau and rarely hear an ambulance). The neighborhood is so pretty because most all of the houses are different. There are a lot of people out and about jogging and walking dogs. All the people I have met seem to love their neighborhood. Funny we bought a corner house too. We have not been through a winter yet so Im pretty sure shoveling a corner sidewalk is going to be tough. We also had to replace our sidewalks and driveway. I don't think I would have picked a corner house if I didn't love the house so much. But I do love it. The only thing I think the area is missing is a playground in walking distance. I moved from Long Beach so I miss the access to playgrounds, the beach and coffee shops:) It's minutes to RVC so we are starting to explore the restuarants there.
Good Luck
** re corner house. I think it depends on which rooms are on the street side. Our kitchen & dining room are on the adjacent street ground level so it doesn't really bother me. The den and living room face the yard

Re: Oceanside
Have you searched the threads over at City-data.com? I saw some threads discussing Oceanside and the Long Island board has a good amount of info about housing and the area..

Re: Oceanside
The Terrace area is my favorite area of Oceanside. I like the older homes that are more typical in that area. School 5 (which Terrace is zoned for) is a great school, I know tons of people whose kids go there and everyone loves it.
I also don't think there's any negative to living near the hospital unless you're talking one of the streets that goes right up along it, then there can be parking issues.
