are these considered words??
DD really only says ma ma da da and oh dat (while pointing to an object) so we are assuming it is = what's that but that is really it
However if you ask her what animals say she can name a bunch bear= grrrrr lion and tiger = rrrrrrr puppy = wu wu monkey = ew oh ew oh fish = makes smacking noise with her lips crocodile - makes chomping motion with hands sheep = ba ba
do these count as words or no???

Re: are these considered words??
To you, sure. To the baby statistical word federation of America, maybe not. Sounds like she's on the right path. The animals sounds, while a great milestone, I don't think go in the offical "book" of words. Mama, Dada and that, for sure.

Re: are these considered words??
I say yes! If you had a book of animal sounds those words would be printed on the page just like any other word. Congratulations Mama!

Re: are these considered words??
So funny you mention! DD is 7.5 months and says "ma ma ma" and "da da" and "bbbaaaa". I'm not quite she sure is saying ma or da in relation to us, but I like to pretend she is. heh heh

Re: are these considered words??
Yes, animals sounds in the right context are absolutely words!! Those were some of my DS's first words, plus "vroom" for car

Re: are these considered words??
Yes these are words. DD had her 15 month checkup yesterday and we asked a similar question. Ped said they are DD's representation of those words and they are used between her and us for communication.

Re: are these considered words??
Thank you! I know I am reaching a bit here but I am just so sick of everyone saying "Wow, I cant believe she is not talking yet" So, I figured instead of saying she only has 3 words, I could jack the number up by including the animal sounds I am not worried at all DD understands sooooo much of everything we say to her and follows simple directions and knows body parts ect..... I am just sick of people saying wow that is all she says. Thank you
