Give me any and all info on CTT

Will be my first year working a CTT class, I am the general ed teacher. How do you split responsibility?

Re: Give me any and all info on CTT

I'm the special ed teacher...we split everything 50/50 (except for my special ed responsibilties). I do half the planning (we switch year to year: last year I did science/social studies/writing and this year I am doing ELA/math). We alternate teaching each subject throughout the day, and then we switch the next day. Not every team in my building works this way, but it has worked well for us.

its supposed to be 50/50, but how you do it will be up to you and your co-teacher. you will need to work in some planning time into your schedules so that you can touch base and plan and organize together throughout the year. you definitely want to build a good professional relationship with your co-teacher, the kids (and you!) will suffer if you don't. consider that how you begin the year usually sets the precedent for how the rest of the year will go. its weird as a gen ed teacher because you will be doing significantly less work than you normally would for planning and grading, but the kids will need your help significantly more. best of luck! ive had some great experiences doing ctt! Thanks. I am going from teaching one subject last year in middle school to teaching all 4 so glad I have someone to split the planning with.

the most important thing is to respect your coteacher, and that she respects you. everything else falls into place.

don't forget that the sp ed teacher has a LOT of responsibility with modifying, IEP writing, getting ready for CSEs, etc so it really shouldn't be a 50/50 split for academics. although i help my coteacher with those things, it's her ultimate responsibility and i am not qualified or licensed to do them myself.

we split the subjects and when IEP writing time comes along, i take over most of hers as well. we make all phone calls together and we read each other's notes before we send them home so we're both on the same page. everything is written as "we". EVERYTHING. we are a team--i don't just help the gen ed kids and she helps the sp ed kids. we help and teach them all and we tell the parents that so they understand.

it's not really less work. don't be under that impression. there's so much more that comes with having kids with identified needs. so although i physically don't plan all the subjects, i'm always helping, reteaching, modifying, etc. there's so much more that we have to do that gen ed teachers don't.

i love it. i've done it 8 years now with the same coteacher. if you need any specific help, feel free to FM me. best of luck!Chat Icon
