VERY High blood sugar levels! UPDATE!
My DH has been feeling very off lately, he has aches all over his body and has lost almost 20lbs in 2 months (he is already very thin). He went to the doctor for bloodwork and they called this morning and his blood sugar level is 240!! He goes back Monday for a follow-up. Does this mean he has Diabetes??? I cannot believe this, he is somewhat young, 36, and very healthy. How can this happen?? Does high blood sugar always mean diabetes??
UPDATE:
SO, he went to the doctor today and the doc is not convinced it is diabetes... Since he has been monitoring his diet the last few days he has felt fine. He did get another blood test which will hopefully tell us more. The doc wants him to monitor his diet and plus he is going to see a specialist. The doc said that these things are often unexplained and come about for no reason. ANyway, we are watching what he eats and if it gets worse the doc said he will go on oral medication then obviously insulin if he does end up getting diabetes.

Re: VERY High blood sugar levels!
yes....it just happened to me
34
healthy my whole life
I lost about 25lbs- that I did NOT have to lose
turns out I have type 1 diabetis
3 months later I back to a normal weight- and on insulin
it's not the end of the world- but I would get to an endo very quick
I ended up in the hospital for 4 days for dehydration and low potassium

He did not fast before so they will have to retest. I just feel so bad for him, but we will do what we have to and will get theoufh. Meanwhile, are there foods he should avoid?

I am 33 just diagnosed with diabetes. I had the opposite gained a lot of weight. Have the doctors do more tests and see an endocronoligist.
For me I am a low carb and low sugar diet. I am seeing a nutristionist.

Re: VERY High blood sugar levels!
My neighbor was just diagnosed with diabetes and he had the same symptoms.
Does your husband feel thirsty a lot and urinate a alot? My neighbor said he constantly had to use the bathroom.

Re: VERY High blood sugar levels!
Type 1 diabetes is called "Juvenile Diabetes" since it usually happens in kids, but it doesn't have to. I got it at 13, and we think I had a retro virus that attacked my pancreas. The pancreas can fail for any number of reasons. It's definitely not the end of the world, and it doesn't prevent you from doing anything you want to do. I wrestled in HS, lifted weights extensively in college, mountain biked, karate, camped, etc, etc.
