Future Employment/Careers
With the way the ecomony is headed, if you could switch careers, what would you do? What career do you think is "safe" for times like this?

Re: Future Employment/Careers
I always say if I could go back in time to freshman year in college I would have studied nursing, anesthesiology, ultrasound tech, something in the medical field. I am planning to go back to school but it's going to be a long road and I just wish I would have done it from the start.

I don't think any career is "safe", but If I could go back in time, I think I would have chosen to be a college professor instead of this crapola

I also think I would go into the medical field. Nurse, LPN, X-ray Technician, or Ultra sound Technician. Wish I did it years ago.

Archaelogist, I love learning about new cultures, cultural history, different religious beliefs, and travelling to other areas of the country.
I would love to be in Egypt working on the pyramids and some of the digs located there - its always fascinating to learn something about how ancient civilizations really lived.

Speech/Language Pathologist or Paralegal. I don't know how "safe" those two career choices are in this economy, but right now the only function of my M.S. in Elementary Education is to collect dust on my wall.
If I wanted to be creative, I would say sommelier or own a food truck (I love cupcakes).

I agree with the nursing choice.
Especially for things like home care.
I think this is going to be the wave of the future and you don't have to deal with things like blood and gore.

Funeral Director or Lawyer
I am a teacher now (left law school back in the day), but after 10-years I am still in jeopardy of losing my job. And there are no jobs to be found. At least if I was a lawyer I think I would have eventually found something else.

Trust me...funeral directing isn't all it's cracked up to be
If I had it to do over again, my heart would still tell me to be a funeral director. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job.
The part of me that is sick of working weekends & holidays & being on call would choose teaching funeral directing!! If I had been smart & continued with my education, there could have been a spot at my school I could have EASILY filled!

Re: Future Employment/Careers
I would have chosen something "universal" that you can do anywhere for any company. That is what I am trying to figure out now. I feel like I am pigeon-holed and my job is too specified.

I agree about something "universal"
I feel pigeon-holed about my degree. I feel like employers look at it and wonder why I'm applying to their job, when it's my experience that makes me qualified.
