What do your students do to keep busy in the morning when they first get to the classroom? Besides unpacking, handing in HW, etc.? Share some ways you keep them occupied while your taking attendance, collecting notes, checking HW, etc.?

I teach HS, but I do two things:
1. I give a Do Now - a worksheet, which reviews information from the previous day.
2. "Good News" - Students share good things that happened over the weekend or good things that are coming up. I usually get this started when I am taking attendance.

I teach 1st grade. Mondays is handwriting day. I put sentences on the board and they copy them a few times each, circle nouns, put boxes around verbs, things like that. Tuesday is Super Sentences. I put plain sentences on the board and they have to add lots of missing information and details. Wednesday, Th. and fri are workbook pages.
