Most of the supplies brought in are for that specific child. However, tissues, soap, glue and glue sticks are community items meaning that I collect them and they get shared.

A friend in K told me that she also collects crayons and those are community goods. I thought that was a good idea but wanted to get an idea as to what other teachers thought about that. So rather than each child having his or her own box of crayons, there are table crayon bins.

That's what I've always done..so much easier...I also did it for pencils when I had K...this coming year, when I have second, I like them to be responsible for hanging onto those items...

ETA that I also made glue sticks community items...

Just about everything is community in my room. They keep their crayons and markers in their pencil box so I guess those are "theirs"

I teach first and everything is community, but kids don't have to buy that stuff. I order it with my budget money every year. For me it saves the "he/she stole my crayon" drama. If I had the kids bring it in, however, I think I'd let them keep their own.

Almost everything is shared in my room (Pre-K) pencils, crayons, glue, paper etc. It's a lot easier.

My son had community in K, but I am at the primary school for .2 and they have their own bins with their own supplies.

I'm 2nd grade...my school puts directions to label all supplies with names on the classroom supply request list.

I collect ALL their supplies and give each group (by seating arrangement) a large plastic shoebox and their supplies go in there and my supply manager (a class job) passes out the boxes.

Tissues, soap and hand sanitizer are all community and collected.

I have my kids keep their crayons, 3 pencils, scissors, and glue sticks in their boxes. I also keep a basket of sharpened pencils in the front of the room. When their pencils break, they put the broken one in the red cup and take a new sharpened one. I also have a basket of crayons up in the front of the room if they need a color they don't have. They also throw broken ones from the floor in there. Markers are community--we really don't use them often. I also keep the Elmers glue they bring in separate. We really don't use that often either and when we do, it's w/ assistance or else it'd be everywhere Chat Icon

eta: Tissues, sanitizers, & wipes are also community.
