Coney Island Aquarium
How is this place nowadays? As a kid, I loved it and wasn't phased by the nastiness of Coney Island. After our trip to the Atlantis, we realized just how much DS looooooves aquariums and wanted to take him to one. I know there is Atlantis Marine World out east as well, but I've never been there and I've heard mixed reviews.

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
We took DS recently. He's 17 months. The NY Aquarium is small, but has the inside and outside exhibits. We did the whole thing in under 3 hours (probably 2 hours plus eating time etc). Then we took a walk down the Coney Island Boardwalk. It was nice. We also went a bit later in the day (got there around 1:30pm) so most of the camp groups were gone, just a handful or less hanging about.

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
I went on Friday last week. DO NOT GO DURING THE SUMMER. The place was filled with field trips. really out of control kids and counselers who did not seem to care. Otherwise my kids (3 yr, 1 yr and 1 yr) had fun.

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
Oooh I didn't think of all the camps going there... Is it still insane on the weekends? We were thinking of going on Sunday if it doesn't rain.

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
I went last Saturday...it wasn't too bad crowd wise, but we went early. We were done by 1-1:30, and it was sooo crowded then, so I would definitely suggest going early. We also went to Riverhead this summer; I preferred Coney Island.

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
We went on a weekend and it wasn't bad. It isn't a whole day trip though, but you can walk across the boardwalk and go to Luna Park in Coney Island as well

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
We went around 3pm on a Saturday a few weeks ago and it was pretty packed. We walked on the boardwalk afterwards and it was really nice. I like the Coney Island Aquarium more than the Riverhead one.

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
Thanks ladies!! Yeah, I've heard that the Atlantis aquarium out east isn't worth the drive. Maybe we can hit that one up when we go apple or pumpkin picking!

Re: Coney Island Aquarium
If you go on the weekend, go early. The parking lot fills up and closes! We drove around for 40 minutes looking for on street parking because the lot was full. Finally after I almost had a complete meltdown and drove back home without even going in, they reopened the lot for a few more cars to enter. I got there about 1:30 on a weekend.
