I just heard this morning that the storm is strengthening and that we will also have tornado warnings over the weekend. I'm not sure how true this is, though.

Is there a way to make arrangements with a local hospital? Just in case your power goes out, you have the option to go there and run her machines on their generators.

I was just thinking of that - I wonder if they would even let you admit her to wait out the storm?

I just saw the latest map on the National Weather Service, and they have the storm weakening by the time it gets to us. Category 1 and slowing down.

Re: Hurrican Irene

The threat level is still high (actually, extreme pr the weather channel). The thing with hurricanes is they can't 100% predict what they will do. With 100mph gusts that could easily take down trees and power lines and leave us without power for days.

Last night the 11:00 news said the NY area at this time would be getting a Category 2, 100 mph sustained winds. That was channel 5.

An hour earlier channel 2 said 105 mph wind gusts.

I just wouldnt take the chance. If you can take a little weekend vaca, I would. Good luck. Chat Icon

The issue with New Orleans was the levees breaking too.
We won't have that issue here, but I think in your case, with your DD needing machines etc, I'd err on the side of caution and if you do have someplace else you can go, I'd consider it. Just to be safe.

Call local police and fire departments - they have special protocol for people who need power for medical needs.

They provided my nana with a generator during Gloria to power her air machine
