Going into K and no real desire to read.
My dd is fighting this like crazy. She is extremely verbal and very smart but she has this fear of reading It started when another litle girl we know told her that you have to stand in front of the class in K and read and if you dont the kids laugh at you and send you back to Pre-K( nice kid huh?) Anyway I took her to this summer reading class and they did activities and she did participate. I was doing simple words with her before like Is and I said what does IS spell and she sounds it out and is doing it right and then says IT. I dont know if she really doesnt know or if its a game she is playing bc she doesnt want to read. HELP.
She can read a few words like Mom, Dad, her name, pizza, stop

Re: Going into K and no real desire to read.
Don't worry, I'm sure the teacher will be able to help her feel more comfortable with it. Worst case, there were kids in my DD's K class last year who couldn't read very well even at the end of the year, they get extra reading help from the resource room teacher which will continue in 1st grade.

Remind her the little girl was lying.
I woudn't worry too much about it. From my experience, the teachers do inspire them to want to read.
Do you read to her at night? I know that helped my kids to want to learn how to read because I'd read the books I thought they'd like. Then read one book in a series I wasn't thrilled with (for example, Captain Underpants) & if they wanted to read the rest they were welcome to do it. Sometimes I'd hand them the book & ask them to read a little bit so I could straighten up.

Re: Going into K and no real desire to read.
I was a teacher for 8 years and my daughter gave me such a hard time when it came to working with her on academic stuff.
It was all stuff that I KNEW she could do, she just fought me tooth and nail on it.
Low and behold she got to school and just soared through everything they asked her to do, and was reading way above grade level by the end of the year.
Sometimes they just don't want to perform for their Moms. It might have something to do with the way we present it to them. I think I stress my daughter out, personally.
Follow your daughter's teacher's lead on this and they will let you know if there is any reason to be concerned. But most likely she will be just fine in school, and is just giving you a hard time!
