Re: I've had it...
Ugh I remember those days
What worked for my DS was a combo of the dr brown bottles, gas drops, similac sensitive, and burping every ounce. Oh and I recorded the sound of the swiffer on my phone and played it over and over again until he went to sleep lol.
I wouldn't keep changing formulas since it takes like a week for it to kick in. Like others have suggested, make an appt with your ped and discuss the issues your DS is having. Also you can record his cries and keep a cry log so u can show your doctor what you are dealing with.
Just remember you both will survive and it does get better

Re: I've had it...
First off it will get better but I remember how awful it was like it was yesterday, not 3 years ago. A few things that worked for me: baby bliss gripe water!! The 5 S'S, LOUD music ( it has to be louder then there crying, took me a long time to learn that. When all else failed, a car ride and let them remain sleeping in the car seat.

My son was very colicky...I thought I was going to loose my mind! However, the gripe water saved it! His gas was so bad and so powerful! Once he had the gripe water and the gas was ripping, he was a much better little boy!
Good Luck!!!

Re: I've had it...
bottles make a big difference, too. we've been lucky with born free. drop-ins are terrible for gas.

Re: I've had it...
My ds cried for hours starting at 7pm every night for several weeks. He was just as you are describing, seeming like in pain when having a bowel movement or passing gas. He would often push the bottle away and cry when feeding. My ped suspected acid reflux so we started axid. I was still seeing the straining and pain so after research i was convinced he had a milk allergy which was causing bouts of reflux as well as gas etc. We switched to allimemtum. We dod not see results right away but now at a little over 3 mths he is so much better (knock on wood!) i sometimes question whether there is reflux or and allergy at all and think he was just getting used to his digestove system. However, i am scared to trial him off of anything just yet. I know how frustrated you must feel, especially when talking to the doc. I always felt like my doc looked at me like i had fove heads bc every visit the things i was describing were different from the week before or just hard to describe. In the end though know you are not crazy!! And it will get better!! Read up on gastro colic reflex i found that this also explained some of the painful gas and bowels.

Re: I've had it...
I KNOW you don't want to hear this, but it's the truth so here it is....some babies are just fussy for no reason. My nephew was like this. He would cry all day and night EVERY SINGLE DAY for NOOOOOO reason. He had every test, medication, formula known to man. He was just a fussy baby that would only sleep on your chestor in a sling. This went on for almost 6months and got a little better by 8 months. He is a horrible napper and sleeper now at 22months. I'm sorry you're going through this. What helped my SIL was the Moby wrap and asking for more help from her husband. They took turns getting up with him and holding him. She was ebf and went to pumping so they could alternate feedings. The first few weeks-8 for us were the hardest, but not this bad at all. You need to call your ped and say ENOUGH I need some help here and i'm losing my mind. Go in and see him/her and explain this all to them. I know on another thread you said you weren't burping him after some of his bottles....YOU MUST! It can be hard. My DD was a horrible horrible burper and it would take almost a 1/2 hr at times, but we HAD to do it! Have you tried warm baths? Car rides? How are his poops? Besides the crying and looking like he's in pain can you tell us about his day? Eating freq and size? Poops? Play time? Anything else will help!

Re: I've had it...
Speaking of a sling, since i spent so much time holding my boy during the day (he napped horribly and that's when he did his crying), I started using a carrier (I happen to have the Baby Bjorn but people prefer so many others) so at least i have my hands free. The first time he cried a lot, but I tried it again and he actually ends up falling asleep really quickly in it.
And if he will sleep on your chest, let him sleep so at least you get some rest. My boy loves to sleep on his stomach pressed against mine (when needed). It must feel good on their tummies or something.

I'm thanking my lucky stars that neither of my kids were like this. I can't even imagine and I feel so bad for you.
Is he better when elevated. Maybe try the Nap Nanny?

Re: I've had it...
I had a colicky kid too. Was worse at certain TIMES (esp. at night).
My ped was very laid-back & first told me to take gas drops... but we couldn't get any because they were all recalled at the time.
She offered meds, but told me to try to BF through it & just hold on for the ride (which I did). It wasn't easy & the WORST part was for 2 months. She believes that BM is the best for colicky kids. It worked... but it wasn't fun.

Re: I've had it...
My DD was like this. We eventually were told she had reflux and milk allergy. She was put on Zantac and put on Elecare.. Elecare was the best thing that ever happened to us. it took like 3 weeks for us to see the change. Give it time and find a new doctor if yours isnt helping you. Also make an appointment with a pediatric gastro. Just know many of us know how you feel and have been there.

Re: I've had it...
Like previous posters my ds was the same. Honestly nothing made large improvements. He didn't have a milk allergy just sensitive stomach and reflux. He was on Zantac which helped alittle. He literally cried all day and never slept. Like ever. He is 2 and still doesn't sleet but has the best disposition and is a great toddler so dont think this shows anything about the future. Take breaks if u can. And take any help when people offer it.
I really thought I was going to have a breakdown so if u need to talk please fm me.

Re: I've had it...
my boy screamed. all the time. showering was impossible, he would lay there and rip out his own hair.
one night it got so bad, i put my shoes on and was going to knock on a neighbor's door and hand him over so i could get a break from screaming-the only thing that stopped me was that i knew she was a smoker and dh would have flipped.
it is bad, so bad. i hated dh for being able to escape the screaming.
my baby was allergic to milk and soy protein. one dirty diaper test changed everything.

Re: I've had it...
hugs to you.
my son was extremely gasses.
find a ped that will take you seriously and test him for a milk protein allergy.
make sure you are using bottles that remove gas. we used Dr. Brown's and those little suckers are LIFE SAVERS.
realize that even When you change formulas, it takes time, up to 2 weeks for the lactose to leave his system and he will be gassy. you have to give the new formula at least that long to work.
when he does tense up and scream, put him up on you shoulder so that his little belly has pressure applied to it. be gentle but firm.
the pain is caused by gas bubbles in their intestines. think about how much it hurts when you have gas. that is what is happening to your baby.
find someone...ANYONE that will take care of the baby for a few hours so you get some straight sleep.
it will change, it will end and you will regain your sleep and your sanity.
be gentle with yourself so you can be gentle with him.
but you need to make sure your support system is actually supporting you, and that includes his doctor!!!!!

get a new nap nanny if you do...older models were recalled. th older models had loose fabric from the foam & harnesses and a baby fell to the side of it still strapped in trapped between the crib and nap nanny & died. so...new nap nanny...not in crib.

oh FYI, Mylicon made my son's gas worse.
I switched to Little Tummies and it worked a lot better.
glad to see that these adjustments are working.
just remember to give the formula switch some time to work!!!!

Re: I've had it...
I'm so glad to hear he's doing a little bit better!!! Since the rolled up towel worked during the diaper change, I would say that's a good indicator he has reflux. I chose not to treat DS's reflux with meds, like I said in the other post, but I kept him elevated at all times and he was a new baby. Good luck at the ped!!! I really hope he doesn't have a milk protein allergy, but if he does you can continue BFing if that's what you want, we're at 15 months and still going strong!

We tried it once, but DS completely rejected it when we put the nipple to his mouth. I may try it again, but I wanted to give the soy a chance to "work".
Do you think I should just try it again sooner than later? Is it "better" than soy? We've only done the soy thing for less than 2 days.
