clothing size: 3M vs. 6M

Hi ladies!!

My dd is 5 weeks old, weighs 7.3lbs and is still in newborn size since she is pretty tiny.

Carters is having a 50% off sale (that ends today) and I have a 20% off coupon so I'd like to take advantage.

Not sure if for December (she will be 4 months) if she will still fit into 3M or I should get 6M?

I'm pretty positive she will still be on the smaller size and probably wear 3M but I don't want to get a Christmas outfit she wont fit into.

HELP!

Thank you!Chat Icon

such a hard call...you don't want the dress to be too big either...

For me, with my boys, I find that carters runs a little big...my son is 5 months, and can still wear some 3 m onesies, even though they are def small length wise...that being said, he can't wear the 3 month pajamas...sorry, I know its not very helpful...

if it were me, for a dress, I would go with 3m.

Its very hard to tell. My 6 month old is in 6 months now and it is starting to get small on her. She started wearing it at about 4 months. My twins on the other hand were in NB until they were 3 months old and in 3 months until they were 6 or 7 months old. I'd go bigger instead of smaller.

I know all three of my sons gained between 2 and 3 pounds each month for the first three months and then gained a pound a month for the rest of their first year. I would take a look at the weights and see what you think. Also, when they are that little, most outfits can be worn on the big side.

my dd is wearing 3M clothes now and she's a little over 10lbs at 7 weeks. even some of her 3M clothes are a little tight on her lengthwise. i would try to estimate based on her weight and how your DD has been gaining weight. but it's better to get the clothes on the bigger size rather than have them be too small and uncomfortable on her. and some clothes may shrink a little bit in the wash.

It's very hard to tell. If you like something - I would buy both sizes. You can always return it - hold onto the receipt.

My 2nd DD was 9.10 at birth but gained VERY slowly. She's 16 months old now and 10lbs. She's still wearing 6-12 months.

My 1st DD was 9.7 and was always big and wore a size larger than her age until 2 years old.

I find carters to run a little slim, but that said My DD was bigger than yours at 5 weeks (she was 9.4) and at 4 mos now and still fits in carters 3 months- she's around 13lbs.

My DD was born 6.13, was 8.13 around 6 weeks. She's now 5 months and I'm guessing around 15 lbs. She JUST fits into 6 mos and I know it won't be long before they're too small. They will probably be really sung on her by 6 months. That said, every baby is different so it really is hard to say what size your DD will be! I'd probably rather have too big than too small though . . .

Re: clothing size: 3M vs. 6M

I think 3-6 months would be more what you want for december.

it seems there's 0-3 months which is smaller than 3 months, which is then smaller than 3 to 6 months and then 6 months, then 6 to 9 then 9...etc.

i have found that 3 months fits up to 3 months.

DD was in NB for a good while. When she first started fitting into 0 to 3 she still fit into newborn. she recently grew out of newborn (at around 2 months) and now she is wearing 0 to 3 and 3 month. I bought all 6 month and 9 month for winter.

I find carters to be pretty true to size.

ETA and if you can't get 3 to 6 month then i'd go with the 6 month. even if she's small now, she could sprout quickly. AND remember 6 months usually fits up to 6 months.
