question about becoming a nurse
my cousin wants to become a nurse but is unsure of which she should do. She doesnt know if she should do lpn or rn. Rumor has it most places dont hire without a bachelors and she doesnt want to spend another 4 years in school....she recently grauated with her bachelors in something unrelated. She has heard that they will be phasing out LPN and that hospitals dont hire LPN im looking for advice for her from anyone that knows how true either of those are....what is she better off doing?

Re: question about becoming a nurse
I think right now it's down to pretty much nursing homes hiring LPNs. My company just laid off their LPNs and hired RNs. They're pretty much being phased out it seems.
RN programs are hard to get into, especially true in associate's degree/certificate type courses

Re: question about becoming a nurse
If she already has a Bachelor degree in another feild, why not go into an accelerated RN program. StonyBrook has a 1 year program, and she will finish with her BSN..
Yes, it's competitive, so she needs to have had excellent grades.
Or she could go into an ASN program, get a job, then complete the BSN while working...still competitive.
