Stupid vents..

Random I know, but I just need to get it out.

Noah has severe anxiety issues, and today was rough, but he did good. What bothered me was I drove him today to meet the Teacher since he takes the bus and I wanted her and I to have a face to the name in the communication notebook kwim?

So we walked in and he recognized from the summer session the regular Childhood Ed teacher, and she said Hi and told him where to put his lunchbox and backpack.

The Special Ed teacher never introduced herself to him nor I , or even got up out of her chair, she was watching all the kids come in etc, just sitting there. My son kept staring at her, I finally said, This is Miss Mary, Thats your name RIGHT? Nothing, just a nod? It is bothering me this is how she acts the 1st day of school, but I will give her the benefit of the doubt.

Next, they were playing legos, they had dumped them out of a plastic tub, all mixed in with the legos were junk, like sparkles and staples ( a LOT of staples...like 100's!) I was picking staples out of the lego pieces? No one noticed this...I told the Aid and she said she'd clean it up. I left though, who knows if she did.

I am admittably anal and a semi helicopter mom , so I tried HARD to take a step back and realize he is safe, and OK and they know what they are doing.

This school just doesnt give me the best feeling, but I dont want to change him now, he has friends in his class. He has made HUGE progress, something is 'right'.

Just a side question for the moms...at your kids school, how are the teachers, aids etc appearances? How do they dress for example?
Today I saw a whole bunch of aides and teachers in sweatpants. Some of the younger ones have 4 inch painted fake nails. Messy shirts , just everyone looks so dissheveled all the time. Noahs old speech therapist told us it was b/c they are paid very little there and dont take it seriously. I am one of the least judgemental people
,especially when it comes to appearances, so for me to even notice it means a lot.

I don't believe that it has an impact on their job as teachers, I just wish they took their positions maybe a little more serious and that would then reflect in how they present themselves.

Re: Stupid vents..

u sound a lot like me lol. in my old school we wore business casual but then as the years went on they became stricter with what we wore and after i left to have ds1 they started wearing uniforms as did the kids Chat Icon . in ds1 school they are very relaxed with clothes too: jeans, track pants sneakers. i'm ok with it bc u do get very dirty sitting on the floor and doing crafts all day BUT they should NEVER look messy and u should look like u are serious about your job even if u don't make that much $$.

not sure why the teacher was so stand offish. maybe she just wanted to observe and will be warmer/different tomorrow. i'd try to drop him off or pick him up a few times if u can in the begining just to 'get to know' the teachers.

and tell noah to tell the teachers if he sees staples in the toys! totally not exceptable!

i have a bunch of issues already about school but i'm trying so hard not to be 'that mom'. i'm going to pick and choose my battles but if u really don't like something then say something, it's your kid! hope noah has a great year!

The staples in the toy bin ? Totally uncool ! That's just dangerous ! It's not like it was pieces of paper.

If the teachers didn't have enthusiasm and pride in how the classroom/toys are presented in the beginning days of school, that would greatly upset me.

Fm me the school, I think it was where Ava went for Pre-k.

While I was unimpressed by the same issues, she did make progress and was happy while there.

Your vents aren't stupid at all, these are things that would concern me too.

I agree with Sapphire, the things above would concern me much more than the clothing. Some of DSs teachers have dressed Jo (usually the head teacher) and some do not. As long as they don't look disgusting, I don't care, the main thing is that my child gets warmth from them and is well cared for.

Usually, I am all for talking to the teachers first, but in this case, I would maybe go to the director to discuss the stap,es, etc. Good luck!

I think that you are a VERY understanding parent to accept that teachers attitude on the first day of school, because as a teacher and a parent I am horrified that she did not greet the students and parents. ANd the staples are a safety issue!! I am upset for you.
