Teaching your kids about American History
It's kind of a spin-off on the whole Pledge of Allegiance debate.
I'm sure everyone is aware (or maybe not?) of the glossed up version of American history that we were taught.
How much do pay attention to what your kids are being taught? Do you supplement (or plan to) give the other point of view?
An example is:
American colonists vs the Indians?
American Revolution?
Civil War?
etc.

I think as a teacher I have always tried to give the most accurate truth in regards to historical events. I plan to do the same for my children.

Good question.
It was when I read Zinn's book, "A People's History" that I realized how many sides I didn't hear of..that were just as important.....definitely an eye-opener and one I will share with DC

My sister is a middle school/HS social studies teacher and my DH studied history in college. They will learn it all. DH is big on already going over certain things with the kids, on their level.
