Anyone who has painted letters from Michael's....please help!!

So I bought white wooden letters and acrylique paint from Michael's...with the help of someone who worked there. Well I started painting them tonight and they look horrible!! The wood is showing right through the paint...even after 4 coats. And you can see every single brush mark (I tried 2 different types of brushes).

Can anyone help or recommend maybe another paint to try? The guy in the store said it would be the best type of paint for wood...but it's the complete opposite! Thanks so much!!! Chat Icon

You may want to look into spray painting the wood first to base coat it. Also did they need to be sanders first? What kind of paint did they sell you?

I used white spray paint. They came out excellent! I did sand them before I painted them.

I have painted several sets of letters ... for my own DD and also for friends and family.

I always lightly sanded them first. It gives the paint something to "stick" to.

I also never used the ones that were pre-painted white. I used the ones that looked like wood.

I would wait for them to completely dry, then give them a good sanding and start over.

I think its because you bought the white ones. The natural wood ones would be better. I used them for my sons room and they turned out great. If you didn't paint on all of them, I would return them and get the natural wood.
