Re: Oil for sale!!!

How would someone even get that out of your tank? The tank needs to be emptied and abandoned legally and according to the EPA.

I think you are all missing the point.
She doesn't want anyone to "take it" she wants to sell it. Which is fine... The buyer will need to be able to pump it out into fuel containers.

Then she can get it legally abandoned. People are always looking to argue.. or say someone is doing something bad or wrong.

go for it....but this might be easier

Hold on there skippy. The buyer will have to pay someone with equipment and licensed to do so most likely negating any cost savings.

There are hefty fines for spilled diesel fuel and proper pumping or abandonment is a must. The liability is too great to mess with amateurs.

Re: Oil for sale!!!

If you aren't able to sell, I just converted to gas last week as well. The plumber had our oil pumped out into drums, transported it for me to the family member's house I was giving the oil to.. and put the oil in their tank too. They also took out my tank, but it was in my basement, not in the ground.. So maybe your guys could do the same for you instead of worrying about using up all that oil? Good luck!

Re: Oil for sale!!!

Where are you located? My brother is a plumber and often transports oil from job conversions, but $3 a gallon is really unrealistic - sorry. FM me for more info if you'd like. Good luck!

thanks for clarifying for me.

my plumber said he would pump the oil into drums and give who ever wants the oil a pump to pump it back in. or you can hire a plumber to do it. i should add...OBO.

No i think you are missing the point...when our tank was abandoned, the company that took the tank away told me if I had more that a certain number of gallons (we only had like 30 gallons) THEY would buy the oil from us...thats why I suggested it...

I don't know if the guy on craigslist is the same guy from when I was looking to convert. He was a complete schmuck. set up the appointment at his convienance, I waited for him(we weren't living there at the time). finally I called him, and he was very rude.

I think that the best bet is to talk to the Companies that get rid of the tank, and or the plumber doing the conversion.

from a sanity check point of view, I don't know how the plumber charges, but if he's billing out at $150+ per hour and screwing around pumping oil out, driving it to your family members house and pumping it back in, it sounds like you could easily kill 2-3 hours doing that costing from $3-$500.

when i abandoned my tank i actually had to pay to have the oil taken out, honestly i would just postpone the job till you run the oil down. this is what we did, in the end there wasnt too much left..
