door to door weird guy...
I'm feeling uneasy about something & just wanted to tell some moms. a guy came to my door yesterday & demonstrated a cleaning product by using a black sharpie on a white cloth & then washing it off. He seemed friendly & kept cracking little jokes. The guy then wanted to come into my house & show me on a carpet stain that I couldn't get out. After I told him I wasn't interested he was like "fine..just keep on scrubbing then" really rude & mad. This morning I kept thinking about it, so i googled to see what this product was & there was a bunch of articles about these door to door sales people who were major criminals :( Just wanted to let you guys know. Has anyone else had this guy come to their home?

How scary! Do you mind sharing what area you live in?

Very scary! That wouldn't sit right with me either. I actually don't open the door unless I'm expecting someone. I don't have a screen door. One time, someone came to read the meter and I opened the window and told him I wasn't going to let him in without my DH present. He said he understood and left.

I wouldn't even tell someone through the window that my DH wasn't home.
I never answer the door if I don't know who it is. I don't care how many lights or TVs are on in the house. My front door is closed and locked probably 80% of the time.

Yeah, I know, you're right. I was going to ETA that in hindsight, I know I shouldn't have said that and just not answered the door at all.

Ditto. I feel like I have to hide in my house from all these solicitors. But I don't care if they know I am home...i don't want whatever you are selling or pushing- so GO AWAY! I really think door to door soliciting should be outlawed in this day and age.

Re: door to door weird guy...
We get solicitors all the time. I hate most of them. Some are respectful and nice. Most aren't.
One girl srcibbled right on my glass front door with some marker thing, and started to clean it off. I was in the process of saying, "Don't you dare write on my glass", and she did it anyway. I was ******. I made her get off my stoop and leave. Then I went out and cleaned my whole front door. Frickin annoying!

I usually say through the door that we don't entertain any solicitations.

Re: door to door weird guy...
i would call your local precinct and inform them about this person if they made you uneasy.
you would hate to read about him in the paper one day.
good luck

Re: door to door weird guy...
I don't open the door for people. I actually go to my window, open the window and say can I help you, etc. There are too many crazies out there to give them the opportunity to force their way into my house is a real no-no. I don't do it and it looks silly that I do what I do but I know my family is safer for it.

Same here. Sometimes I don't even answer. I HATE door to door solicitations!

Re: door to door weird guy...
I had one recently come to the door, but I didn't answer. I never do, I holler down from the window upstairs or don't answer at all. He was selling pest control. Told me all the neighbors were being sprayed for ants inside, and I should too. Told him no thanks, and he got a huge attitude. I later saw him sitting at the end of my block. Undoubtedly waiting for his ride. Another scam where "pimps" drop these kids off in neighborhoods to sell fake contracts for stuff.

Re: door to door weird guy...
When I lived in my old town I never opened the door when people were selling things. It never made me feel comfortable.
The one thing I love about our village is that they have a no soliciting rule. You have to have a permit to sell anything (usually goes to a childrens group) and you can put your name in for no one to ring your bell.
