How would you handle?
I am going to be in the city all weekend next weekend, and my beta for this IVF is going to be on Saturday. During the early afternoon when the phone call will likely come in, I will be with friends from out of town...maybe at lunch...shopping...who knows?
Of course the news could be good, but if it's bad, oh man. I don't want to fall apart in front of people like that. It took so much just to produce enough follies to get to even DO this IVF in the first place that if it fails I'm going to be a puddle of devastation.
So without being a Debbie Downer, how to prepare for 50% chance of bad news?

How do you feel about testing beforehand so you are prepared?

this is what i was going to say. i POAS before my beta not only because i'm impatient but also b/c i don't want to have a meltdown when i get the beta call.
sending prayers that your call is GOOD NEWS!!

Re: How would you handle?
I agree, test in advance.
I'm sure that it will be good news.
Do they know what you are going through? If not, are you prepared to tell them?
I have a pretty good poker face but if it's not positive news I think I'd have to collect myself in the closest bathroom.

Re: How would you handle?
I agree- I know that generally it's not advised to POAS before the beta because it's not 100% accurate, but at least it gives you a little bit of preparation and lets you deal with it on your own time.
I got the call back from the doctor for both times while I was at work. I don't have the type of job where I can just stop what I'm doing and answer my cell phone. The first time I missed the call at 2pm, then ended up playing phone tag with the RE's office until 4pm. I was having major anxiety for those two hours!
Good luck and hope you get a BFP!!!!!!!

Same, I would test before hand this way you are prepared either way. I wouldn't want to be caught completely off guard in front of friends and family. Best of luck to you

Re: How would you handle?
Yeah, I thought about POAS in the morning. I try not to because if it's negative I'm a mess until the beta comes in. But you guys are right. I don't want to be caught off-guard.
A friend of mine who did IVF through North Shore said the IVF drugs can cause a "false negative" on the HPT. Anybody know about that? I can't reason it out in my head, but she said you're never supposed to POAS with IVF.

I haven't heard of this... I would think HCG is HCG regardless of how it got there.

It's the HCG in your system that can cause a false negative. How many dpo will you be? I tested at 5dp5dt and I got a positive that was real. North shore makes you wait forever for beta which drove me nuts. I just kept testing until my beta confirmed it. GL! Hoping it's great news!!!!
