C25K question

I have started the C25K program. So far I have only done day 1 and it was hard. By the last 2 or 3 running intervals I was struggling.

My question is, did any of you struggle even at day 1 yet still complete the program? I am intimidated about running for any longer than 60 seconds at a time. But I really want to give this shot.

Any insight on the program and/or your personal experience with it would be great Chat Icon
TIA

Re: C25K question

I really struggled in the beginning. I was able to make it through until week 3 and then I had to do a couple of extra days before moving on to Week 4. I only made it to Week 5 before I hurt my knee, but I prob would have been able to keep going if I didn't hurt myself. Every week I would get anxiety about running longer and every time I was able to do it. Did I feel like I was going to die sometimes during the longer intervals? Yes, but I still did it.

I couldn't believe that I went from barely making it through 60 second intervals to going 8mins straight running. I always told myself that I would try the next week and if I couldn't do it, I'd go back to the previous week until I felt stronger.

Re: C25K question

I did not do c2k but I was not able to run more than 1 minute straight when I first started 2 years ago. My 1st 5K I thought I was going to pass out.

Now Im running a half marathon in less than 2 weeks. Just stick with it. Its not easy but you learn to really enjoy it. I have a tough time mentally after 6.5 miles .. but this past Sat I pushed through and ran 10.5 .. my longest yet.

Good luck!!!! You can do it!!!

The program is awesome, trust it! If you have to repeat weeks, that's totally fine. I could barely do 60 seconds when I started and I completed the program in 9 weeks. I've been running for 2 1/2 years now and about to run my second NYC marathon! You can do it, good luck!

Re: C25K question

I just finished week 3. I am not a runner and have never been. Every day has been hard for me but somehow I make it through. Chat Icon I am so excited to be running and I love how I am pushed a little harder each time. It is manageable and I am excited to finish the 9 weeks.

You can do it!! Take it one day at a time. Chat Icon

Re: C25K question

Just stick with it!! Don't overdo- try to run every other day (only 3 days per week of course) since your body needs the day break in between. I struggled SOOOO MUCH in the beginning, but today, I completed Week 8 Day 2. Seriously, if I can do it, you sure as helll can too!! Good luck! I promise it does get easier. I never thought I'd be able to run 28 minutes straight and live to tell about it, but it happened this Monday and today! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: C25K question

definitely trust the system - I've tried running before, but never successfully until c25k. it feels very hard in the beginning and as the minutes increase, you think I'll never be able to do 3 minutes (or 5 or 8 or 20), but you do and the next thing you know you're running for 45 minutes and it's not awful and you even kind of like it.

I started in May and I'm running a 5.2 mile leg of a relay 1/2 marathon next weekend - you can definitely do it!

Re: C25K question

I didnt do that program, but I did slowly build myself up to a 5k on my own. It's hard in the beginning. Running is rough when you first start out. I promise it will get easier. It gets a lot easier actually, but you need to just stick with it. If you run frequently your body will get used to it and adjust. In the very beginning I had a tough time (and I would say I'm pretty athletic). Now a 5k is nothing for me.

I promise with time it does get easier!
