Choking at school

DS started full day sessions at school a couple of weeks ago.

His program right now is every AM doing their ABA sessions and then Tues/Thurs he stays for PM integrated preschool

I send in lunch for him on those days. Today I sent in chicken nuggets. I asked one of the teachers to heat and cut them up for him since he is a 'stuffer'. She must not have heard the "cut them up" part because he choked. Like, turned blue and couldn't cough choked. His program director called me after they got the nugget out and took him to the nurse. He was fine but shook up.

We've already written him a feeding program now that they're going to work on with him. I just feel completely helpless at home. I know i have to trust the school but it's so scary when your child has issues like this..

Don't know what else I can do..

Gosh that's terrible. Regardless of a stuffer or not they should be watching closely, and know the child. I'd def. talk with the teacher, if it doesn't work contact the supervisor on staff.
Hopefully it never happens again, poor guy.

Every school I have ever had my child in will not cook food, cut food or anything. They actually asked for all food to be cut up ready to eat in disposable bags etc. Is that normal for them to cook etc?

Either way Im so sorry that happened to your son. Thats very scary!

DD would pocket her food and she choked on a banana once at home. I would pre-cut the food before sending it in.
That's so scary that happened and I'm so relieved that he's ok!! I'll bet they'll be watching him more closely while eating now and it's unfortunate it took this incidence.

I'm glad he's OK.

I precut everything at home. I know there are different assistants helping with lunch and some are going to be better with the feeding than others. I send food in the way I would give it to him at home, I even cut up Ravioli before I put it in the thermos. I never assume they are going to know how he likes/is able to eat something.

How scary! I would pre-cut it all from now on. Get yourself a pizza cutter (if you don't have one). Works great for cutting nuggets

That is scary! I'm so sorry this happened to DS!

I would precut at home also--they get busy and the message might not get passed to the correct person, and I'd also just do it for my own peace of mind. I put nuggets in a thermos for DS actually, if you stick a paper towel in there, they don't get as soggy, and he seems to like them that way. But whether you cook or not, precut at home so this doesn't happen again.

How Scary !

Put a note and attach it to the food container. I would definitely cut the food ahead but put a note about the "stuffing" and that he requires being watched (well I believe all 3 year olds should be watched pretty closely when they eat).
