East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
We recently decided to expand our search to include Sayville. Our agent mentioned that Bayport, Blue Point and East Islip are also nice and have good SDs, but we know very little about these towns. Any input on these areas? What are they like as far as shopping, community events, etc? This is part of the reason we like Sayville.
Also, we're considering making Sayville our western cut-off point (commute-wise) so are on the fence about including East Islip just yet. That being said it also seems that we may be able to afford a bit more if we look outside of Sayville??

Bayport and Blue Point are both nice, and have a good SD. However, there is no busing in that district.

Re: East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
I love Sayville, Bayport and Bluepoint. They are all very close to each other so if you chose outside of Sayville, it's not far to get into town. We looked exclusively in these areas to buy a home but wound up in Oakdale, but Sayville school disctrict. We are right on the border of Sayville.
I cannot say enough great things about the area. Bayport Bluepoint is a small school disctrict, as is Sayville. But both are very good.
I don't know much about East Islip but it is a bit further west from the Sayville/Bayport area. We occassionally drive there because it has more of a town than Oakdale, but it's not like Sayville.
East Islip, Sayville and Bayport are all Islip town. Bluepoint is Brookhaven.

Re: East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
We are purchasing a home on Durham Avenue in Sayville. We looked at Bayport and BluePoint and saw a lot of nice homes however there is no BUSSING! Oh the inconvenience! Forget it. My friend lives there and has complained about it for years.
Oakdale is nice too and Connetqout school district is good. I did not find many homes in my price range and if I did, they homeowners never got back to us.
Good luck. They are all very nice areas. Oh and I teach in Sayville.

Re: East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
all are very nice, as with most of the south shore you want to try to be south of montauk. both schools are very good.
i think you might be able to get a little more for your money in east islip.
we looked into bayport but the taxes were ridiculous and there were NO buses for kids in the schools.
love that sayville has the town right there, lots of nice shops/restaurants.

East islip is a really cute town with a great main street, lots of cute shops and restaurants and a great sd. I'm not familiar with the other 2 towns.

I went to Bayport. No real main st like Sayville ( my family has lived there for 50 yrs). Bayport is great. We plan on moving back to Sayville or Bayport eventually.

Re: East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
I live in East Islip. It is about 10 minutes (2 towns) west of Sayville. I love it there but if I had the choice, I'd move to Sayville. Main St. and community activities are fantastic there!! Sayville's homes are slightly higher than East Islip, depending on where you look. South of Montauk in Sayville, Bayport or East Islip can easily put you in the $750K+ range. There are many homes in East Islip that are over $1 million. Bayport is lovely as well (my aunt has lived there for about 30 years.) Lovely colonials on Folger, south of Montauk. South of Middle Road is even more beautiful.
For an all around great community, school district, lively Main Street, restaurants and all the amenities you could ask for- I would pick Sayville. HTH!
ETA: As far as taxes goes, I think that Bayport would be the most expensive, then Sayville, then East Islip. My taxes (with Star) on 1/4 acre is $7500, which is really good. My aunt has over 1 acre and pays more than $12,000. I have no info on Blue Point.

Re: East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
We live in East Islip and love it! I grew up in Smithtown and really was not familiar with these towns until we started looking. I would say East Islip is nice because it is right between the other town main streets (Babylon is not too far, Bayshore, Islip and then Sayville). It is quick to get on the parkways and before "the merge" if you are commuting west you will def. appreciate that! Still has that "small town" feel with the local shops, etc. but not as much as Sayville. My cousin is in Sayville and loves it and my in-laws are in Bluepoint and they love it so I don't think you can go wrong.

Re: East Islip, Bayport & Bluepoint??
I lived in East Islip for 5 years before we bought our home in Sayville. I thought East Islip was nice - but it didn't have that same Old School Main Street feel that Sayville has.
Bayport/BluePoint is a nice community as well. We looked there but did not want to be part of Brookhaven township for whatever reasons we had.
I do not agree that South Of Montauk is the best/only place to look for homes. I live North of Montauk and it's fantastic.
I think there are lots of budget friendly homes in all of the communities that you mentioned. You may get a little more for you money if you go inland a little more - consider looking in parts of Holbrook, Ronkonkoma and Bohemia. I think Holbrook and Ronkonkoma are both Sachem schools which has a nice reputation. Bohemia is (I think) Connetquot and Robbie has at least one classmate with a Bohemia address in his class (Sayville).
Good luck!
