Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
Hi ladies, I am only 20 and a half weeks but I am starting to pani a little....I have been going to Dr. Pilitterri and am now starting to question....Does anyone know if he is the only one who will deliver you or does he use someone that will be on call at the hospital? Also, I know that he is affiliated with Good Sam and Southside but I get the feeling he generally goes through Good Sam only and I have heard nothing but great things about Southside and would like to deliver there..Can anyone offer any advice?
So confused!

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I don't know much about Dr. P, but I can speak about Good Sam with a great deal of confidence. I had both of my DC at Good Sam. Southside was never an option for me- despite living 2 minutes away from Southside. I knew from the get go if given the choice- I'd be at Good Sam in a heartbeat.
I have had nothing but amazing experiences with my deliveries at GS. It really is a personal preference but if you end up at GS, please know you are in amazing hands!
Good luck!

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
Thank you soooo much! I am sure it is a good hospital. I am also confused about my Dr as well. I was hoping he would be a little more warm and fuzzy but he doesnt appear to be that type of Dr while I know he is highly recommended.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I know someone delivered around the same time as me at Southside, it was a planned induction or section...forget which. He rarely isn't available to deliver but I assume someone would have to be around to cover for him. Ask him.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I was not thrilled with their office either.. Or Dr.P himself.. .so I can totally relate. I only carried to 17wks, otherwise I was prepared to look for someone else.
In any case.. I did ask Eileen at one point what happens if he is not available on the night I would deliver. She said in his entire career, he has only missed like 2 or 3 deliveries so I'd be fine. I later heard he's big on inducing- but I don't know much about that since I never actually delivered a baby with him.
Good luck! If you're not happy, NOW is the time to switch!

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I delivered at Good Sam. It was my only choice since that was where my OB delivers. I was not thrilled at all about that. I actually considered switching doctors because of it.
I have to say that I had an awesome experience there. Everyone from start to finish was fantastic. I have zero complaints and that, in and of itself, is a major achievement because I LOVE to complain.
I don't know Dr. P., but I wanted to mention that my OB was on vacation so Comprehensive OB/Gyn covered. I had never met those docs before so I was a little apprehensive. I met Ketcham, Sampino and Vullo and they were wonderful. I'm actually going to switch to that practice.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
Dr P is my Dr and he deliverd my DD and I know exactly what you mean by not being warm and fuzzy but I have to say he is a great Dr and was awesome with me when I delivered. He was there whenever I needed him and took very good care of me. I also delivered at Good Sam. My L&D nurse was awesome! I can not say enough about her. As for the other nurses some were nicer then others but I think thats anywhere you go. Good Luck with whatever you decide and your LO

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I know that he is a great Dr and comes highly recommended I just wish that he were a little more WARM AND FUZZY! LOL. As long as me and my little baby are in good hands I guess that is all that matters. I just think I was expecting more since so many people told me how much they loved him. He is definitely nice just not so talkative and I think that is what is throwing me off. Since this is my first I just dont know what to expect and what he is going to be like. I also hope that Good Sam is good to me too

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I see Dr. P as well and I DO think he's warm and fuzzy
He's always giving me high fives, called my DH to congratulate him on getting me pregnant naturally and was great in the delivery room. He has residents at Good Sam that I saw when I was pregnant with DD and bleeding. Not sure if they'd deliver, though? I WAS induced but I leterally had to beg him and cry my eyes out to get him to do it at 38 weeks when I was already dilatedand effaced. I couldn't take one more day because of some health issues.
ETA: I also delivered at Good Sam, but was not thrilled with the experience.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I love Dr P! To me, he is warm and fuzzy. We have good conversation when I see him and he always pays a lot of attention to my DD. His office staff is a little iffy. I think they are just very unorganized because they are so busy.
My cousin and I are both pregnant with our 2nd child and we both see Dr P. She prefers to deliver at Southside and I prefer to deliver at Good Sam. We both had amazing experiences at those hospitals our first time around.
I do think he is big on inducing but you could always say no. He has induced a lot of people I know.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I had an incredible experience at Good Sam but I have to say that although I've never met Dr P nor do I have any desire..I wasn't a fan of the fact that during that particular weekend, he had induced a large number of girls so that he could go on vacation...

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I saw dr p and delivered at good sam via emergency c section. He postponed a family ski trip to deliver my twins. He left the day after (making sure I was ok) and I am pretty sure that he has a dr that covers for him in emergencies when he can't be there. That dr (i can't remember his name) assisted in my c section and saw me a the hospital for the rest of my stay at good sam. A freind of mine sees the other dr and loves him. I have nothing but GREAT things to say about good sam (except the size of their rooms)
But I agree with pp Dr p isn't for everyone and if you are not comfortable or happy you should find another dr.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I LOVE Dr. P and do think he is VERY warm and fuzzy. He would always have great conversations with us, took his time answering any questions I had, and he truly is a remarkable doctor. His office staff does stink though. He runs a very busy practice and is only one man, which can make him (and them!) a little crazy at times.
I was scared he wasn't going to be able to deliver DD as well, but his life is that practice and his patients. He was supposed to be on vacation that week, but I saw him everyday in the hospital. He even came to see me at 11:30pm one night when he got back just to check on me and then came again at 6:30am the next morning to discharge me so I wouldn't be waiting all day. He even came into his office by himself on a Saturday while on vacation to see a handful of patients that needed to be seen. He's very dedicated and I really don't think you have to worry about him not being the one to deliver you.
As far as Good Sam and Southside, he does deliver at both. I think he prefers Good Sam a little more because of their NICU, but when I was at the end of my PG he seemed to be at Southside doing more deliveries than Good Sam. So if you want Southside definitely go for it.
As far as Dr. P, if you've seen him a couple of times and you're not happy, now is the time to switch. Being comfortable with your OB is one of the most important things during a PG IMO. Good luck!!

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
Dr. P delivered my triplets via emergency C-Section at 30 weeks. He was nothing short of amazing in the delivery room. My recovery was quick and easy and my scar is minimal. He was there every morning to check on me, and really just had my health and my babies health in mind at all times.
As for good Sam, I had a good experience while I was admitted. The nurse staff was great...the rooms...not so great! Definitely VERY small. But I do need to RAVE about the NICU. My boys were in the NICU for 7 weeks and my daughter for 9 weeks. The staff in their NICU was amazing. Their nurses and doctors were so caring and always made me feel that my babies were in the best hands when I couldnt be there.

Re: Good Sam/Dr. Pilitterri
I never heard of that Dr. but My Ob (Dr. Livoti - who I love) delivers at both Southside and also Good Sam. I had DD @ Good Sam and had a good experience. The rooms are small as everyone says but the nurses were really nice. I will have #2 @ Good Sam again. If you are not happy with your Dr. then you should shop around.....personally I think it is important to be happy w/ your dr.
