Gifted children

Anyone else with an older child who's gifted? My son is in 4th grade and he's been tested and scored in the highly gifted area. PM me if you can, looking for feedback or to brainstorm with other parents in a similiar position.

Does your school have a gifted and talented program? Has the school made any recommendations? Do they want your child to skip a grade? Will they provide funding for you to send your DC to extra curricular activities that will engage your DC because the district does not provide them in your particular school? I would schedule a meeting with your child's school to discuss age appropriate methods to expose him to additional activities to expand his current school curriculum. Perhaps your DC can receive additional or more difficult work sheets that will challenge him/her. Are you near the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery or Labs? When I was in school they had classes for kids who were gifted and talented. I had so much fun in those classes and learned a lot of different things. For those classes my parent's paid out of pocket. There was a gifted and talented class that I was sent to during school hours as well. I still went to regular classes for most of the school day in addition to the other classes. If you don't mind sharing, and you can FM, what areas does your DC excel?

Robert is a mathlete and is in the challenge program at our school. They elected him to be tested based on his standardized test scores and classroom ability. The test they gave was an IQ test (WISC-IV). He also took the WISC-IV and an Otis Lennon from an independent source as well. In order to be part of the SEED program in our district the child must score above 130 on the WISC-IV. This year they did not administer the WISC-IV and have simply invited the handful of children who would have qualified to take the test to automatically participate in an 'enrichment' program rather than a traditional gifted program. Same concept.. but the kids aren't technically labeled as gifted.

Thanks for the replies. He's already in the programs at school so I'm familiar with how it works & outside enrichment, it's more about the challenges that exist overall. Too detailed to discuss in a group setting so I'll send FMs.
