Nassau county - integrated class for Kindergarten
I am trying to find out which districts in Nassau county have integrated or inclusion classes for Kindergarten.
Also, it would be helpful to know if they take students from outside the district.

you will have to fight hard to re-district... but Bellmore/N.Bellmore/Seaford Harbor, Plainview (just some i know are excellent)

I work in a Nassau elem school. We have co-teaching (the new word for Inclusion) classes on every grade level. But, Ive never heard of going to a school that wasn't in your district. Unless, its a BOCES program which meets the needs of the student. We've never had a student that wasn't from our town.

Mineola has an integrated kindergarten but I don't know if they accept kids from OOD

Wantagh has inclusion K. I'm not sure about accepting kids from outside the district, but I can ask if you need.

I know it will be a battle, and not sure yet what we are going to ask for, but want to get all my ducks in a row  I am hoping it's only for kindergarten.

it took my friend 2 years to re-district. she is from franklin square and wanted to get into Harbor.
i have heard from some people in the loop, that all districts are trying to put kids back into district (those coming from private spec ed schools) for money reasons.

Co-teaching, at least in my district, is vastly different than typical inclusion, and I wish they wouldn't call it that. In our district it consists of a teacher, an aide, and the special education teacher pushes in for like an hour each day, then moves onto another classroom. That teacher is not in there the entire day. So when asking around OP, I would ask for the exact model of the classroom, and how long the special education teacher is in there for.

Thanks for this. I was talking to a friend today who is an elementary ed teacher and she told me the same thing. That in some of the classes, the special ed teacher can be there for 2 hours, one class the special ed teacher was there for 45 minutes. It all depends, and changes, year to year.

I asked a mom I know who has a child in a self-contained class in our district (Wantagh). This is what she sent me.
Not sure about our inclusion classes. But we do cross district with the self contained program. Her district would have to contact our PPS office. Bellmore has programs that are opened to other school district as does Plainedge too. Not sure what the age is for Plainegde though. How does she know she needs inclusion K...did district tell her or she is just assuming?? It can be expensive and if it is her assumption...her district may not be willing to send out the packets. Wantagh El did open a 2nd inclusion "k" class this year though.
FYI - our K program is only 1/2 day, but *I think* that the inclusion program is full day. Our district offers a half-day K program through SCOPE as well.
