How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
in honor of their two month anniversary and i think because they are mad about the park needing to be cleaned they have organized this march that will likely effect hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Possibly causing more people to have trouble earning money today, like all of the businesses around the park that needed to lay people off since the protest started.
as a sidebar, do you think they should be allowed to sleep/camp in the park when NOBODY(even homeless people) are allowed to sleep overnight in NYC parks?
ETS-The grammar/spelling police can have a party. I just reread my poll to see I used the word 'effected' instead of 'affected' (that's what I get for waking up, hearing this on the news & trying to post about it before coffee)but LIF doesn't allow edits to poll choices so I'm prepared for my lashing, let it rip.

Exactly. I voted they are ruining my day.
They are in front of my building now, which is surrounded by the SWAT team. It was impossible to get in to the building this morning. I was 15 minutes later than usual.
I need to go to DMV today - which I can't see happening because I doubt I'll be able to get over there...

This really needs to stop, I am the 99% and I think this entire movement is so unorganized and absolutely ridiculous. I think all of these people should go out and get a d*mn job and hold themselves accountable for their own future. JMO

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
I think they should all go home and get a job. ( I should have added "said toungue in cheeck")
In all honestly they are NOT disrupting "big business" today. They are dissrupting the little guy who takes the subway to his job. For me, I work in an an office and I'm on salary. If I'm late, its not a big deal. But what about the mailroom person who paid hourly at the SAME firm?
Or the guy going to his retail job?
Or the single mom trying to get to her childs daycare?
Todays civil disobediance does NOTING for the movement. It ONLY hurts the regular "99%".
Oh? And why arent they protesting the NBA? Rich players fighting with rich owners on profits. The guy who gets screwed is the person who is working the beer stand, and cleans the uniforms, and sells popcorn, and is a waiter in the restraunt at the stadium.....OWS should be protesting the big rich people who are sticking it to all the people out of jobs because THEY cant decided who gets what cut of MILLIONS of dollars.
eta: at top after get a job.

This is the beginning of the end.
I was a big supporter -- and I still support what they stand for.
But their execution stinks, and I can no longer support them.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
I support what the movement stands for but they're losing me with this today. I don't think they'll be very successful in shutting things down, they'll just be successful in getting themselves arrested. I think it's time for the movement to grow and mature - get some real leadership and have a real plan to change things. Because I don't see how what they're doing now is going to change anything. In the beginning I was hoping the passion and enthusiasm would lead to something bigger but so far it hasn't.

ITA. It makes me want to defend the movement and it makes me want to just shake people who say things like that and say "Don't you realize that the things they want will benefit each and every single one of us?! Don't you realize that you could be that person who has been unemployed for so long that your unemployment has run out in a HEARTBEAT?"
But actions like this make it really hard to support them.

ITA. I can only hope that the attention they've brought to the issue is enough to start some change. Maybe a more cohesive movement will emerge.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
In some sense, I feel there has to be some casualties for lack of a better word. When it comes to big movements, protests, wars, etc there are always innocent casualties in order to make change happen. But I do see the aggravation.

ITA. If they want to hurt the "big dogs" on wall street, they should be blocking the line of black town cars.

THIS!
I agree that something needs to change...but they need a leader, a thinker with a plan. Someone needs to come up with a solution.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
I think it's time they find a new purpose in their life because as I've said from the beginning, sitting in a park whining, taking up space, and costing the city countless dollars in police presence and clean up is a complete waste of time and money. They've accomplished nothing and they will continue to accomplish nothing. They have no game plan. They have no purpose. I think enough is enough. They are getting in the way of people trying to get to work and do their jobs and they are making the downtown area look like a slum. It's a pointless movement that needs to now just go away. The whole "movement" was ridiculous from it's inception, now it's becoming a HUGE public nuisance.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
this is what I would love for them to do...
look up the voting records of all the congresspeople in their area
see if they voted for tax breaks for wall street corps that they disagree with
cross reference that against voting records for laws that allow for greater outsourcing AND>>>>
OCCUPY THEIR OFFICES!!!
ITA with GioiaMia, their execution makes NO sense. it seems so typical of the description of this generation...they just want to ANNOY everyone into submission.
do some RESEARCH, make a REAL PLAN, and then maybe you will see some CHANGE.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
our office is right next to wall street. friggin chaos getting in today and I couldn't even leave to get some breakfast because of the mob blocking the front. I'm pregnant and cranky luckily, the commute getting into the city wasn't bad since we came from NJ but many of my coworkers had problems on the subways.
It just makes NO sense. The people they are aggravating and hurting are not the 1%. They are hardworking people just trying to make a living.

Its official. Hell has frozen over. I agree with Jess.
Disorganization gets you nowhere. Not a fan of OWS at all really but the right to organize, educate onesself and protest ill defend to my dying day.

Re: How do you feel about the OWS movement to disrupt transit and block the ringing of the bell?
I know OWS is spreading worldwide but I don't read the news so I have a question- what has the movement done to protest against politicians, those who vote in all these crazy lobbying and tax laws? Wouldn't this be the next, more natural step after protesting on Wall Street?
It seems as if it's become total anarchy, which obviously isnt working to their advantage.

AMEN!!! These "protests" are just their excuse to justify no being out there looking for a job. Forming little tent cities, creating havoc in the city, that is not going to change anything. If they want change so much they need to get involved in their government to get things changed because the people in there now, don't seem to be doing much to help.
