Who here has had a water sono?

And how was it?

I am going for one next week. I have had an HSG test back in February and it wasn't really a big deal, but why with the water sono do I have to start AB's the day before? That weirds me out a bit.

Can I go back to work afterwards?

Give me the scoop please, thanks!

im pretty sure ive had that. they squirt water up there and check for polyps, right? it was no biggie, the hsg hurt worse than this did. they say wear a pad afterwards in case of leakage from the water, but i didnt have an issue.

Re: Who here has had a water sono?

I had 3 of them done and never had to take AB. None of them hurt at all. I think the HSG was more uncomfortable. So if you made it through the HSG with no issues then the sono should be easy.

You make me laugh! "They squirt water up there", it's like at this point everything else has been up there, what's a little water?

I am glad the HSG hurts more lol, because that one didn't hurt me much at all.

Did you have to take AB's?

I had this done and it was very quick and no discomfort at all. I also took antibiotics before..........if you had no pain with the HSG you def will not have any with the water sono!

Stupid question that I never really knew the answer to... Is this the same as a hysteroscopy? If so, it's painful while they do it.. but it lasts like 3 mins. It felt like really nasty period cramps. Once it's over, the pain is gone.. and you should be fine to go to work after.

Re: Who here has had a water sono?

I've had a couple water sonos, the HSG and the hysteroscopy. Of all 3, the water sono was definitely the least painful. I don't remember any real discomfort at all. I was always told that the purpose of a water sono is for it to be a mock transfer so any issues that would prevent a smooth embryo transfer can be identified ahead of time. You need a full bladder for it, but I don't remember taking antibiotics and I don't get why you would need them since you don't take antibiotics after the embryo transfer, but before. With the hysteroscopy, they take an actual picture of the uterus and look more closely for polyps, etc. And that one hurt me A LOT!

I don't think it's the same thing, I got my paper this am and it says "Water Sonogram/Saline Sonohysterogtram (SSH)".

The nurses told me today that no one complains about pain and that the AB's are to (obviously) prevent infection because someones some extra water gets in the tubes.

And yes I think it is to look in the uterus and see if there is scarring or anything else that shouldn't be there.

Thanks guys! I am not scared especially if it is easier than the HSG which I found to be fine.

Nope, they use a regular internal sono wand, well at least with bth of mine.

Leb, I had 2 and never had to take AB. I experienced some cramping, while they tried getting the cathedar up there, but it was no way near the same level of pain as the HSG. GL!

Re: Who here has had a water sono?

Different from a HSG. It was really nothing. The did make me and my husband take antiobiotics starting 2 days beforehand. My Dr explained that he was further tracing the "route" for my retrieval. I was further asked to drink a lot of water and it so happened the amount I drank was perfect when we do my retrieval - so once less thing to worry about the day of.
