Anyone ever give their kids Similasan for a cold?
Kieran has had a cold for almost 2 weeks now and it turned into this horrible chest cough. We took him to the doc on Wednesday after he spiked a 103.5 fever. They checked everything out and said everything looked/sounded clear, and that it was just a cold that would have to run its course- lots of fluids, humidifier, saline spray, etc- the usual. His fever has come down a little every day, and his nose is only running a little bit now (and it's totally clear). But he can not seem to shake the cough. It's such a tight sounding terrible cough and I feel so bad for him. We've been using the humidifier when he sleeps, making sure he drinks a lot of fluid, and rubbing Vicks on him every time he goes to bed or to take a nap. My husband and I keep saying we wish we could give him like Mucinex or Robitussin or anything to help with it, but he's only 21 months so there doesn't seem to be anything we can do for him. So my husband just came home from CVS with Similasan Kids Cold & Mucus Relief. I've never heard of it and I am a major skeptic when it comes to giving medicine to my little guy. I barely take anything myself! Just wondering if anyone knew anything about it or if your ped has said anything about it. It says it's for children 2 and up, but my husband feels that almost 22 months is close enough.

I wouldn't give anything at that age. Since he had that high of a fever he prob had a virus on top of the cold. I hope he feels better. I would try saline and a boogie sucker.

Thanks. I was really looking for something to remedy his cough though. He's not too congested anymore.

I always give my kids a teaspoon of honey several times a day when they have a cough. I use it myself too. It's supposed to coat and soothe a sore throat and cough. It can't hurt!!
