On a quest to be proactive
I have told bits and pieces of my story, but after this last negative I really need some help!!
I am a patient of RSONY and although I am going to look into a new practice I want to try and make the most of my remaining time there. The location is soooo convenient for me to get to work in RVC.
I started there last march. I have PCOS. I did four rounds of clomid...but had poor response. I just finished my second round of follisitem injectables...both were long cycles that produced one follicle,
I spoke to dr. Sekatos at my last IUI and she made a plan to add metformin...which I have been asking for since the beginning. I also just had an HSG and it was normal.
I have an appointment with dr. Trivax on Thursday to talk about IVF and for once I want to be proactive and involved in the decision making instead of just nodding like a baby. Can anyone offer some advice/questions I should ask?? Do you think I should try the metformin for a few months before starting IVF? my hubby's SA was awesome, so I know it's me. Is ther any other test I should ask for?
Thanks ladies!!

Re: On a quest to be proactive
Have you had a water sono yet? That's the only other test I can think of.
I would ask,
"If you were going to take a very aggressive approach, what protocol would you do?"

Re: On a quest to be proactive
You have PCOS, but how have your blood results been? Like, I have PCOS but I have super high LH which is affecting my eggs, so the doc is giving me another drug to suppress that.
Maybe you can ask the doc how your hormone leves have been and ask if they think that's affecting you getting pregnant? Have you done the glucose tolerance test? Did you ask them why they didnt think you needed metformin?
Did they suggest you move onto IVF or you?

Re: On a quest to be proactive
I asked to start the course for IVF. I have not had a water soon...have to ask about that. My glucose tolerance test was borderline...but I think after all these failed cycles they are adding metformin just to see??? Dunno...starting at 500 a day and then next week 500 twice a day.
Reallyjust want to be on a path, feel like I'm on a captain less ship that's sinking. I've loved dr trivax and hoping he can provide some answers

Re: On a quest to be proactive
i can only speak for me and i thank god for the metformin bc it regulated my cycles a bit but i have done 8 iui since starting it and nothing to show except a mc or 2
my doc just didnt think iui would work for us..after so many he just said it is time for ivf..he actually does not like the actual placement of my ovaries
i think the main question u could ask is why do u think the iui r not working and why r u more confident with ivf

I think your questions can be pretty general- why arent you getting pregnant and what can they do to improve your chances? If they don't answer your questions to your satisfaction, tell them "im sorry, you're going to have to explain it to me like I'm 5". It often works for me. My doc is a man of few words and sometimes I have no idea why I'm taking something lol.
