Reccommend a Hospital
What hospital ERs or medical floors have you or family been to that you can reccommend? Preferably in Nassau County. I have been to Winthrop and was unhappy with the experience. I had brought family to LIJ plainview with a better experience.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
My ILs have been to the one in Plainview as well MANY times and have received excellent care.
I would think that a hospital like Winthrop, you are going to have more of a hodge-podge of people from all areas, and it's bigger too from what I recall which could lead to a less than desirable experience.
I also think it's kind of the luck of the draw with these things.
I had my son at LIJ and had a great experience----many others complained so you just never know.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I think it depends on what is wrong. THere are many hosiptals I would go to for a minor issue but somehting like a heart issue there are only 2 on the island I would even think about.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I have never been for myself..
but... for my kids I LOVE Winthrop..
I am sorry you had a bad experience there!
Their Pediatric ER is fantastic..I have never had to wait with the rest of the ER people and love that they have their own line and place for kids! I also was at the NICU with my son when he got very sick at 1.5 yrs old and they were all very very helpful, nice, and accommodating!
I delivered at LIJ twice- it was OK
I am looking fwd to delivering at North Shore Manhasset with Baby #3 bec I have heard many good things!
I guess it depends on what you are going for!
Good luck!

North Shore Manhasset or LIJ. Have experience with both ER's and with both Oncology centers.
I live in Queens and would never go to a Queens hospital. Thre was one time I convinced EMS to take my dad to NS because it was easier to get to than Flushing Hospital.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I had 3 kids at plainview. I was happy, but needs to be updated.
I only have experience with DS at LIJ/Cohen's, but I can't say enough good things about it.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I had both my DC at Southside & absolutely loved it; yet I would never consider going there to ER or for another issue.
My son was in Good Sam & received amazing care. They have an excellent pediatric floor.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
A hospital for what? Kind of an odd question (IMO). For an emergency situation? For a certain type of surgery? Which hospital is your doctor affiliated with?

I agree...it does depend on what it is.
My parents go to South Nassau for everything, although when Dad needed a bypass, they went to St Francis...but for more 'minor' heart issues he goes to South Nass. He also had a good experience at Mercy.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I had two shoulder surgeries at NS Glen Cove and had a fantastic experience both times, but I believe that is a very small hospital that specializes more in Orthopedic and Rehabilitation of services.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I agree with the others that are asking what the issue is.
If i'm having a heart attack, I wanna go to St Francis. If I broke my leg, I'd probably just wanna go to LIJ plainview for the fastest care...
If i'm having a baby I wanna go to NSUH Manhasset...so it really depends.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
Totally depends. If its my kids needing a hospital, we would take them to Winthrop, where there pediatricians practice and who have a great pediatric unit and ER.
For me or DH, we go to St. Francis first, even though its called the Heart Center. They are more than that, and our doctors are affiliated with them. Other times, we've gone to North Shore Manhasset.
The closest hospital to me is NS Syosset, and I don't think I'd consider going there.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
I think it depends on the severity of the issue. Obviously, in a major emergency you go to the closest. For me, if it was an emergency but I did not have to go to the nearest hospital I would go to NSUH manhasset. If it was a serious issue and distance did not matter then hands down I would go to NY Presbyterian. I had the most amazing care of my life in that hospital. The doctors, nurses and staff are really top notch. I have been to many hospitals unfortunately and no other place comes close.

I am from Queens and everyone went to Manhasset.
I live on the South Shore now but I would still drive to Manhasset to go to the hospital.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
My FH just had surgery at St. Joseph's in Bethpage and it was a really nice hospital. It is very small so they gave him a lot of attention and got him out pretty quickly. The nurses were so nice too! We also went to their ER when he hurt himself and they were wonderful.

I have the option to be treated inpatient or outpatient for an issue. If i decide to go to the hospital it would (hopefully) be nonemergent. I would not want my Doctor as my hospital doctor. So basically i need a hospital that has a Medicine floor that can treat a common uncomplicated medical issue.

Re: Reccommend a Hospital
Another fan here of LIJ Plainview. I've been there multiple times for my grandmother, b.c her doctors are affiliated there and she lives close by. She's received excellent care there. I've been to LIJ Huntington a few times, but more than 7 years ago, so I don't think that counts.
