winter due dates
This is probably a really stupid question.... but what do you take baby home in during the winter? Do you buy a winter coat, hat, glooves? Or is the bundle me okay? I am due in a 3 weeks and want to make sure I have the proper clothes for baby. Thanks!! :)

Re: winter due dates
i'm due 2/4 and i plan on putting the baby in an outfit, sweater, hat and use the bundle me. THat's it. They're only going from the hospital to the car or car to home so i don't want him/her to sweat in the car if i pack on the layers too much.

Re: winter due dates
DS was born on 1/30 and we brought him home in a gown (that had the mittens built in) and a hat. He had a blanket from the hospital and his bundle me... The amount of time we were outdoors was minimal and the car was already running and heat was on, so he was fine.

Re: winter due dates
Thanks ladies! I have the bundle me already. I just wasn't sure if I should run out and buy true winter gear. I will make sure my husband has the car running with heat on already.
Thanks again!!

Re: winter due dates
I took my DS #1 home on 1/1 with a onesie on under sweater set and a hat. I wrapped a blanket over him in the car seat. I went from the hospital 15 ft into our car and right into our home.
the rule of thumb everyone gave me and that has worked for 2 years is he wears 1 layer more than me.

Re: winter due dates
I used a Bundle Me, a sweater, cap, and mittens with my youngest. With my second (before Bundle Me's were out) bunting suit and a cap.

Re: winter due dates
DS was a winter baby in January and I didnt have the bundle me yet. I layered him with a fleece sweatsuit and hat then tucked him in a few heavy blankets and took them off in the car. Same concept as the bundle me pretty much.

Re: winter due dates
I have heard that the bundle me compromises the safety of the car seat... does anyone know anything about this? For that reason - I was going to get the JJ Cole Car Seat cover instead, which I think serves the same purpose? Any advice?

I've heard about the Swaddle Me for the carseat being an issue, but never for the Bundle Me. It's a fleece blanket with the slots for the straps and whatnot, so nothing is impeding the straps or the snap-in option... It's like throwing a fixed blanket over the baby.
If you (or anyone) finds anything to the contrary about this, please post.

Re: winter due dates
I plan on putting him in his outfit, a hooded fleece, and I just got the JJ Cole Bundle Me.
So, that's the plan for now.
edited for spelling.

It actually is not safe to use as per all carseat safety experts. You are not supposed to put anything between the baby and the carseat. You can put something over the baby once the baby is strapped in, but never in between the straps, etc.
The shower cap style ones are perfectly safe since they don't interfere with any of the straps or the function of the carseat.
And yes, you will get a lot of people that will say they used the bundle me without a problem. It's still not considered safe to use.
