Anyone else get horrible pain from pio? Update!! Thank you!!!!
I'm not one to complain about pain typically... I try to buck up and deal with it when I can... but this is just so bad. It honestly is comparable to being in a moderate car accident based on how sore I feel.
Has anyone had pain like this from the pio? For previous cycles when I used it, I don't remember it being this bad. Even when I was pregnant with the triplets, I used it longer than I have used it so far and I don't remember it being nearly this bad!!
I feel bad complaining because I just feel so grateful to be at this point and I'd do pio the whole 9 months if that's seriously what it took... but I just have to know if this amount of soreness this is normal!!
Update
We tried heat last night. I was SO nervous that doing it without numbing the area with ice first was going to hurt terribly but it wasn't bad at all and I don't have any new soreness today!! We had to do 2 intramuscular injects last night, but the only soreness I feel today is leftover from the night before.
Thank you so much to those who recommended using heat first!!!

Yes, I was extremely sore when I started it last time. I started doing the heating pad for 15-20 minutes before the shot and it was soooooooooooo much better! Didn't hurt after and not nearly as much going in. Feel better!

Re: Anyone else get horrible pain from pio?
It varies for me. Sometimes I feel fine, which makes me worry that we did not do it right. Then other times my whole side, from my hamstring to my obletes feel sore, which also makes me worry that we did something wrong. But now I am dealing with an itchy rash on my a$$. Can't win.
Are using your heating pads?

Re: Anyone else get horrible pain from pio?
Some days I have more soreness than others, but there are times when it hurts a LOT the next day I asked the nurse and she said I could take tylenol when it's really bad.

During my last cycle it was more painful. The bruising was pretty bad to the point it was uncomfortable to sit and the cramping was a b****. The first cycle it wasn't as bad. In the end its all worth it!

So, you don't ice beforehand.. you heat it instead? My routine was ice, inject, heat. I read online when I did some google searches about pio pain that people heat beforehand, but I never thought to do that. It just always seemed to me that icing it made more sense because it would numb it a bit before injecting. Maybe I'll try heat tonight instead!
I know all this is worth it in the end which is why like I said.. I feel bad complaining!! Pio is literally a pain in the asss
eta: I emailed Dr.B about the pain and he suggested putting ice on it now, just to bring the pain down a little.. I tried that and it's feeling a little better.. I'm the type who needs to have 104 fever before I take a Tylenol My dh thinks I'm ridiculous because I inject myself multiple times a day.. I take drugs most people haven't heard of .. yet I'm hesitant to take a tylenol when I can clearly use one.

I did ice the first few times with my fresh cycle 2 years ago, and my DH's cousin said to do heat instead. It was so much easier and hurt a lot less. The needle goes in really smoothly too, and I felt I had less hard spots where it accumulated in the muscle. I did heat and massage after too.

Re: Anyone else get horrible pain from pio?
Around week 4 or 5 of PIO, I got really sore and started to bruise bad. I am actually still sore from PIO and I haven't taken it in 4 weeks!
Try laying down when DH gives you the shot. Your muscles will relax and it won't hurt as much.

My nurse told me no ice for PIO only heat. She said that icing the area causes the medication to clump up and that causes pain. Heating helps the oil disperse. I never iced and never was in a lot of pain. Not sure if there is any truth to this, but thought I'd share.

Re: Anyone else get horrible pain from pio?
I had some pain from PIO, but not as bad as you're describing. However, I had really itchy welts that were like giant hives. Now that I've been done with PIO for a week and a half, the welts are long gone, but my butt is still sore.
I always iced for 10 minutes, injected while lying down, massaged, then laid on a heating pad.

Ahhh do not ice!!!
Heating pad before and after. The oil is so thick and the warmth helps to spread it out.
