Random boob/BF question

Did your breasts grow a lot during pregnancy? Did you have a large milk supply?

I know it's a weird question, but my breasts didn't grow much when I was pg with DS (yes they got fuller and I needed a larger bra size, but overall they kinda looked more or less the same, just fuller). I had a low milk supply so BF was very challenging for all 11 months that I did it.

This time I'm almost half way through my pregnancy and again, not much boob growth. Just curious if that might mean I will have an issue again or if it's just not a factor at all.

I went up a full cup size during pregnancy and 2 cup sizes (from my original starting point) after birth. I had an oversupply. I don't know the actual scientific answer, but I think that it is important that your breasts do change. It was one of the first questions the pediatrician asked me at DD's weight check before my milk came in.

Re: Random boob/BF question

I did get larger but not too much- about one size up and I do have a good milk supply! Not sure if they are related

I went up a full cup size when I was about 12w pg, and never really got bigger than that. Even when my milk came in, I don't think I went up another cup size. And I had an oversupply for the first few weeks.

My lactation consultant told me that women can have different amounts of milk ducts (between 4 and 8? I think?). Someone who's an A cup might have 8 and someone who's a DD might only have 4. Size isn't an indication. I'm not sure about "growth" though! Might be a question for your OB.

Re: Random boob/BF question

Mine got huge and I produced a lot of milk.
My sil bf for 13 month and didn't supplement and she is small up top and they never really got that much bigger when she was pregnant. I don't think it matters much. Just keep nursing.

I have heard that breast size is not related to milk supply.

But to answer your question, my chest grew tremendously when pregnant and after giving birth (but I gained a TON of weight), and I have a really large milk supply.

Good luck!!!!

Re: Random boob/BF question

Chat Icon No correlation! I only went from an A to a B while pregnant. When I sometimes get engorged, they can go up to a large B/small C but at 2.5 months pp they are slowly getting itty bitty again :(.. and I have an abundant milk supply.....

Mine didn't grow at all during pregnancy and I have had a great supply so far. DS is 8 months old.

Re: Random boob/BF question

I went up a cup size during PG, and 2 more cup sizes PP. I even got slight stretch marks PP on my breasts! I had a decent supply until 2-3 wks, when it just dropped off and DS wasn't gaining enough weight (at 3 wks he was still @ birth weight). No correlation there!

Not sure if they are related.

My boobs grew a lot and I had enough of a supply to satisfy DD when I BF but I never pumped a lot. Getting 4oz pumping was a good session!

Yesi, i think it had more to do with the fact that he was so early. Your body never really had time to be ready, KWIM? And correct me if I am wrong but you were pumping for him from the beginning, right? That makes a big difference too... add to all that, stress, you get the picture. I am sure this time will be better Chat Icon Chat IconChat Icon Chat Icon

I went up a cup size while pregnant and another cup size while BFing. I went back down to my pre-pregnancy size after I stopped BFing and lost a bunch of weight. This time, I'm already up a cup size at 8 weeks. It's ridiculous.

Re: Random boob/BF question

I had small boobs to begin with before my pregnancy (size B, and not a full one). During my pregnancy, they just got full and I went up to a size C cup but still it wasn't ginormous but just full. After I gave birth, I also did breastfeeding. I didn't think I had problem with supply and the only way I measured it was because my daughter gained a lot of weight during the first month and didn't lose any weight the first few days of her life. I drank A LOT of water in the beginning and literally pumped and breast fed every 2 hours! I heard that supply had nothing to do with breast size.......

I definitely don't think they're related. My boobs got massive and I did not have any supply issues but I also have a few friends who are barely A cups and also had no supply issues either.

Yes you're right. Since he was so preemie and spent a month in the hospital, I had to pump every 2 hours whenever I wasn't physically with him at the hospital. And quite a few of the NICU mommies had very low supply at the beginning, but many of them by a few weeks in were getting more milk and I was barely making it lol. Thanks K!!!
