Just got some upsetting news at work
The owner of the company I work for just came to our office (we have 2 offices and he works in the other one). He told us that our biggest client just pulled their business. So they cancelled our holiday party and our bonuses in lieu of laying people off right now. They are working hard to get this client back, but if they don't they will have to lay off a lot of staff. DH and I both work for the same company and we were going to use our bonuses to get christmas presents and make some repairs that are needed. I'm happy we still have jobs for now but this just stinks.

I am sorry! I know what it's like to count on a bonus and then not get one. Of course you're happy you still have your jobs, but it's ok to be upset or sad.
Our company gave no raises and bonuses for a few years, moved us to NJ for a year (oh my lord, the commute was horrible), but they did it so they wouldn't have to lay off anyone and I am so thankful to have my job!

to OP. Keep hanging in there. Economy is making life tough for all us little people. My office lost three big accounts. Now i'm just staying quiet and working hard. Hope we get new business soon or things make get difficult.

I am very sorry. These days are so scary, but you have the right attitude about having your jobs. It sux, but I think your employer made a very good decision.
