Moms who recently delivered at Huntington Hosptial
I delivered at Huntington in 2009 but I recently heard that there have been some changes to the maternity wing.
I heard that babies must room with you. I am concerned about this. I pushed with my daughter for 3 hours I was pretty exhausted and cannot imagine taking care of a newborn under those conditions. I also will have a toddler at home and need to rest while I can.
Also they are semi-private rooms....I'm guessing my roomate's baby will be keeping me up as well?!?
I realize this may sound selfish and I am all for bonding with my baby but I'm just concerned. Any updates?

Re: Moms who recently delivered at Huntington Hosptial
I delivered there almost a year ago and that wasn't the case and my SIL delivered there this summer and she sent her DS to the nursery at night. They gave me the option and I had them take DD and just bring her back for feedings. SIL had them keep her DS all night (they fed formula). I hope it's not a new rule!
I do know that they really try to give everyone their own room at least one night (unless they're crazy busy). I think they have plans to make them all single rooms, but not sure when that's happening.

Re: Moms who recently delivered at Huntington Hosptial
I delivered there 1 plus week ago. The rooms are 2 to a room with some singlerooms but they try to start each new mom out by the window and fill the rooms up as the ward gets busy. Yes the baby does room in with you for the day but at night around 10 the babies go to the nursery and they will bring them back to you at 1am and 5am if you want to feed them.
Everything and everyone was so amazing ,it was a wonderful experience. Good luck!

Re: Moms who recently delivered at Huntington Hosptial
I delivered there two weeks ago and that was not the case at all.
I was asked every night if I wanted to sleep through the night or have her brought in to see me for night feedings. I BF so I was surprised they asked me ther but I realized at discharge my DDs card on her bassinet said bottle fed by mistake.
This was my second delivery there. (I was also there in 2009.) there are 4 private rooms and 12 doubles. I have paid for the private room both times.
The nurses were amazing. We had such a great experience both times. Good luck!!

Re: Moms who recently delivered at Huntington Hosptial
I just delivered there two weeks ago. You do not have to room in with the baby at any time, day or night. I was a c section and the pain meds they had me on right after made me shaky, groggy and out of it. There was no way I could care for baby in that state, so I left her in the nursery at the times when DH wasn't there, and it was no problem.
Most rooms are semi private and yes if you have a roommate her baby may keep you up. During the tour they said that they try not to put room in moms with moms that send baby to nursery. When I delivered it was super busy so I got a roommate who was trying to breastfeed, meaning they brought her baby in every two hours. Since I am a formula feeder, I just had them feed the baby at night so I could sleep, but since roommates baby was in and out it didn't work that way. Needless to say, as soon as a private room was available, I moved into that room and my stay was soooo much more tolerable.
The nurses in both L&D and maternity are phenomenal!

I delivered way back in 2008 And I remember AJ being there ALL the time .. I wanted her there more and more. They took her from me at night but I got her back at 1am and 5am.
I was put by the window.. but no one ever got the bed next to me. They got crazy busy and put moms into the other wings and regular hospital but no one ever came into my room. I never asked for a private room (couldn't afford it) but got one anyway really. Not for a good reason either, my blood pressure was so high I guess they wanted less stress.
AJ slept so much and was so tiny and so small of voice (oh I miss that tiny days). Honestly the cleaning staff woke me up more.. annoyed the cr@p out of me. They cleaned the TV, the floors, the bed not used, my bed, the bathroom, the chairs... Shoot I got to a point where I wondered if they were in there JUST to tick me off.

I would second this except (read my birth story) the horrible nurse who was on duty when I finally delivered. Minus her callous, unfriendlly, rude and down right unacceptable behavior the rest of them were a dream.

Re: Moms who recently delivered at Huntington Hosptial
I delivered there in august
I had a private room and at night i was encoruaged to send my babies to the nursery by most nurses between feedings
there were a few that recomended keeping them but i am happy I did. I also was strict with the nurse aides who took vitals - i only let them take vitals in the middle of the night when i had the baby otherwise to come back when i was awake with the baby
it was very nice - and everyone is very helpful
