Do you think this style sofa is just a fad?

I like the modern look but Im so nervous it will go out of style. Should I stick with the more traditional second sofa? I plan to have this for a long time.

Im not even sure how I will feel about leather but I have a small DC with more to come in the future. I had my sofas cleaned 1 month ago and in that time DS has spit up at least 30 times and the dog has added his fair share Chat Icon. I feel leather is my only option.

The modern look

Or stick with traditional

I reaaalllyyy like the mod looking one more. But then again, I'm not the type of person to pay attention to trends, I just buy what I like. So personally, I'd go for the first option.

I like #1. It's "cleaner" and more up to date.

#2 is def. more "traditional" and a bit "stuffy".

Depends on your style!

I think both are nice, but it definitely depends on your style and what would fit with the room best. I think the first one looks more "kid friendly" while still looking very nice, so that is probably the one I would choose.

I think the legs on that first sofa are what make it SO modern looking. You could get something thats in the middle of the two styles...more "transitional" i guess its called?

Re: Do you think this style sofa is just a fad?

My sofa looks a lot like # 1. IMO I dont think that it is trendy looking at all. I dont like the look of # 2, I think it looks a little 80's/90's!!

ETA: The arm rests are nonexistent on this type of sofa and not comfy at all!! Although when I bought mine I didnt care about comfort, the look was more important. I am buying a sectional for my new family room soon and I am not buying this type of couch again because I am going for a less formal and comfy feel.

I also just realized, I didn't answer the original question. I do consider them "in" right now but I don't think clean lines will ever go out. And I FAR and AWAY like #1 over #2.

Our sofa is similar to #1, but without the buttons. I personally love it and think it will be in style for a whle. It is not overly modern.

I like the first but love the second!

I don't really consider either to be a fad, just depends on your style.

I like them both.. Definetly, love your taste. But if I had to choose I would pick #2.
If you are planning to have it for 5 or more years... You can either keep it simple or very formal looking.

Have you sat on them yet? Dont buy them until you know they are comfy. Some look great but dont feel great.

I like them both. My only concern is with #1 - those buttons or stitching comming undone. Also cleaning it - will it be as easy? I also hate people seeing the dust under my couch LOL

Re: Do you think this style sofa is just a fad?

i am a little bit more traditional in my taste however I definately like #1 as well and I dont think its super modern or anything that will go out of style for sure (and if so, not anytime in the lifetime of the couch).

but i have to say about leather that we always had microfiber and got leather recently and its dark leather too and with our cats, its much much worse. not for stains but for getting damaged as far as punctures, scratches, etc. i don' think i would ever get leather again but if i did, i wouldnt get dark brown because when it gets scratched, its white and clearly shows. also, like someone else said i think, leather is a funny thing as far as comfort so you really have to test it. for sitting its not terrible, but i never feel like i can cuddle up on it or get comfy because its too slippy slidy.
