grieving taxes in suffolk?
Hi,
We are looking to grieve our taxes and wanted to hear your experiences and get recommendations on companies that can do this for you. Or the steps to do this youself? Is there an online site for suffolk to do yourself like there is one for nassau.
TIA

Re: grieving taxes in suffolk?
There is no "online" site like in Nassau. In Suffolk County, when you protest your taxes, you are protesting against the Town you live in - not the County, like in Nassau. The Towns in Suffolk set their own assessments.
The filing period for the first step (the grievance or protest period) runs from May 1 through the 3rd Tuesday in May. You must file your grievance during that time period.
If you let me know what town you live in, I can recommend some attorneys who specialize in this type of law.

We used Mark Lewis and were very happy with the outcome.

Question for those who grieved their taxes and won.. Is there an appraisal inside and out?

It depends. If you have a recent purchase/sale - there's no need for an appraisal. The market value is defined by the purchase price.
If you have recently refinanced, there's no need for an appraisal since there was one done as part of the refi - you just need to submit a copy of it.
If you have neither of these things, you can either have a "drive by" appraisal done (which will be cheaper) but is really just an investigation of comps in the area with some exterior photos. Or you can spend more money for a full apppraisal.

Won with Mark Lewis once, second time - no go. We're hoping to have success this year.

What do it cost to do this? I have been thinking of looking into it.
