Can a credit card company remove old late payments from credit report?

When I first worked at Kohls years ago I opened up a card and was stupid and made late payments to them not realizing this would be bad for me later on. I was 30 days past due and antoher time 60 days..like I said I was stupid back then. Anyway I still have the card but since then I make all my payments on time or paid in full. Just recently they even increased my line of credit. Do you think If I called they would consider removing my old past dues history so my account can be in a positive status on my credit report?? I feel so stupid for being so dumb back then. Otherwise it says It will go to a positve status in May 2015..I dont want this to ruin my chances of getting a mortgage in the future.

It is worth a shot, but most items remain on your report for 10 years.

Even though they may tell you no technically yes they can remove late pays. I would try to write a goodwill letter explaining to them that you have been a good customer since then and would like to have your lateness removed, etc. etc. It couldn't hurt.

FYI: After 2 years late payments don't really hurt your actual FICO score...as long as you have kept up to date with everything.

Most likely, they won't remove it but it's worth a shot.

Generally late payments fall off automatically when the account ages enough.

What you can do is this:
myfico.com has a feature that allows you to submit online credit disputes - I'm sure other companies offer the same feature but fico is the one w/ which i'm familiar.

Sign up w/ them and dispute the late charges. In your dispute letter simply state thaat you've never been late on that card. It is possible that when they contact your creditor the lates have aged enough in their system that they'll say that yes, they don't see any late charges on that account and fico will update your account.

The myfico fee is monthly so you can cancel your subscription when you're done w/ your disputes.

While you're at it you can pretty much do the same thing w/ any other lines of credit that are having a negative effect on your CR.

A lower number of businesses are asking for penalty rates for late charge card payments. However, the downside is that those that do will charge more than they used to. Same topic here Fewer credit card companies charging penalty rates .

Late payments stop affecting your credit score after 2 years however they still remain. You can try writing a goodwill letter to Kohls and seeing what they say. Good Luck
