How is this person related to me?
My fathers cousins grandson.
I am pretty sure he is considered my fathers 3rd cousin but what is he to me?
Anyone know the relation tree?

Isn't it something once removed?

I found this site with a chart. I don't quite understand it, but maybe you will!

Re: How is this person related to me?
Honestly, no relation. Technically, 4th cousin.
I don't know about "removed", but I had to do a lot of genealogy research when I worked in the cemetery. If someone came to us to bury that person in your plot, we'd mark them as no relation which would require a signed and notarized affidavit giving express permission to have him buried there. Yeah, it was a fun job.

If your father has a first cousin, the first cousin is your second cousin. His son would be your father's 2nd cousin and your third. His son would be your father's third cousin and your fourth.
So the grandson is your fourth cousin. I think they would say 4th cousin 3 times removed.
I am pretty sure this is correct, I have a huge family and this is how we do the "math"!

Re: How is this person related to me?
According to the chart I posted, it would be your second cousin once removed.
If I am reading the chart correctly, the ancestor that you share is your Great Grandparent and that is the grandson's Great-Great Grandparent.
Not sure if I am reading it correctly.

Re: How is this person related to me?
I am pretty sure that if it is your fathers first cousin, the cousin's son would be your second cousin and the cousin's grandson would be your second cousin once removed. If you have a child, then your child and the grandson would be third cousins. Does that make sense?

This is correct.
The "removed" is because you come from different generations. You and the grandsons parents are second cousins because you share the same great grand parents. He and your children were third cousins. they shared the same great great grand parents.
